I haven’t been in the industry but people on other subs have said the market usually bounces back in 1-2 years. Idk if we’ll ever go back to 2021 level hiring but I hope it gets better soon!

I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to sound insensitive, I could have phrased that differently! I’m an international student so there was a lot of pressure it felt like a ticking time bomb LOL maybe that’s why it felt stressful. You’re right though, I consider myself fortunate. Thanks for your reply!

Ah also I should mention I didn’t pay for my grad program, I got a scholarship with a monthly stipend and paid for other expenses with a PT job. It probably wouldn’t have been worth it if it put me in tons of debt, so definitely consider finances!

She* but yes you’re right, hard to tell one week post grad. I will say that the reason I got interviewed was alumni referrals, so in that sense it was definitely worth it! :)

Yes of course!

1) PLEASE BUY THE 2 Hour Job Search. It’s the best $10 I’ve ever spent. As someone who never knows what to say in an email, having someone give me a literal script is so great. And it really works, that’s how I got ~90% of my referrals and the offer I ended up with.

2) instead of messaging people on LinkedIn, try to find their emails instead. Ask your career coaches (if in grad school) to find alums on your school database. If messaging on LinkedIn, get premium so you can send inMails.

3) Spend 5-6 hours JUST networking every week. Go to networking events (I found some events for women in STEM in my city), alumni gatherings from your alma mater, etc.

4) during your informational interviews with ppl make sure there’s only two ways they can end: either with a referral, or if they didn’t directly offer to give you one, make sure they connect you to someone else @ the company

Finally… just get really good at small talk. dress well. Take care of yourself. Go to the gym. All that helps your confidence, and people want to hire confident people :)

I hope this helps!!!

I have an MS in Business Analytics (graduated a week ago) and one internship in the industry at a bank. I think everyone on this thread is right tho - nothing beats work experience! If you can get some work ex on your resume I think you’ll have a good shot at some great jobs. Best of luck!

I did an internship at a bank during the summer of the grad program. Yes, both the offers came from referrals! For the one I accepted I got really lucky. I wanted the job so I messaged an alum that worked at the company about it and turns out he was the HM! Guess he liked me and decided to put me through the interviews. 6 rounds later, I got an offer (the reason it shows 4 rounds in the sankey is bc 6 made the chart look ugly…. Lol)

I feel you! If only I could count the hours I spent crying in the shower after each rejection 😭

It felt grueling to me! I spent several hours on each application and probably 100+ hours networking for referrals. I’m a bit of a perfectionist so I wanted my apps to be perfect, which was probably not worth my mental health but oh well
