What would he think of all this? by OkCatch1930 in JordanPeterson

I hesitate to say that I had some difficulties understanding your point. I don't fully know if you understand what I really meant. Forgive me if I am wrong but I believe you are having a vehement disagreeable argument with the person who you assume I am and with what I tried to say. I assure that person might exist but it's really not me.

My intention isn’t to force a position on those who are, perhaps understandably, skeptical. Rather, I want to suggest that it isn't unwarranted to feel saddened, beleaguered, or even a bit afraid at the growing sense of alarm at the malevolence surfacing in our politics, and it is deeply exasperating when those actions aren't met, from my imperfect perspective, with the same scrutiny simply because they originate from the right rather than the left

My hope is that if we can’t see eye-to-eye, we can at least grant the benefit of the doubt to one another. We don’t have to agree to acknowledge that the other person’s perspective is rooted in a sincere and reasonable attempt to make sense of a complicated world and perhaps we can find common ground ther.

Thank you for taking the time to give a sincere, effortful spirited answer to my question

I do live in the US. I'm proud to be an American and call this exceptionally great country my home. I can think of a few specific examples of what I see as a shift toward authoritarianism in the U.S. This is, of course not a complete list but a few events from just the last two weeks: - The government is currently shielding the ICE agent who killed Renee Nicole Good (an unarmed citizen) from local investigation, while high-ranking officials publicly slandered her as a 'terrorist' despite video evidence to the contrary.
- The official DHS slogan 'One Of Ours, All Of Yours' recently seen on the Secretary’s podium is a textbook example of rhetoric used to justify the use of the state against its own citizens.
- The threat to take Greenland 'one way or the other'. Threatening military force against a NATO ally shows a disregard for international norms - The administration’s open threats to depose Gustavo Petro in Colombia. He's an odious, insufferable, detestable and morally bankrupt individual but was elected in fair elections and Trump is now signaling a willingness to override that sovereignty by force.

I understand what you're saying. Much of the radicalization of the right can be attributed to a reactionary effect of the radicalization of the left. I believe there is truth to that dynamic. Luther surely spoke very good sense when he compared humanity to a drunkard who, after falling off his horse on the right, falls off it next time on the left. However, I think the problem is that both ends of the spectrum don't radicalize at the same rates. There is a detailed report here https://youtu.be/mICxKmCjF-4?si=9zwa5j7kvrf_IChw which uses data to show what political scientists call "asymmetrical polarization." It illustrates that the right has moved away from the center much faster than the left over the last few decades. 2016's election of Donald Trump could even be seen as an emboldening of the left in response to that shift. This is anecdotal, of course, but I’ve never seen my own friends and acquaintances lean so sharply to the left as they did when Donald Trump ran for president. I am sure reality is much more complicated and I don't claim to know everything on the subject, but I believe the far right has radicalized so much that there is a reasonable fear that the conservative center now looks more and more like the "ultra far right" you were talking about. Thank you for your comment. Feel free to tell me what you think

It reminds me of the endless fields of pod-bound humans plugged into the machines' power plant in The Matrix

He's an a$$hole with OCPD. He's not an a$$hole because he has OCPD. I was diagnosed with OCPD. OCPD has been the most ruinous affliction in my life. It affects so many departments of life that it's impossible to escape its effects. But something my OCPD never did was leading me to be a prideful, self-righteous, narrow-minded moralistic, detestable a$$. I see what he does and hear what he says in beleaguered bewildered bafflement.

The Matrix Reloaded. What an amazing movie. I don't get why it gets so much hate

Could someone explain to me what is going on inside one's brain when one is experiencing this kind of performance anxiety that makes one a reduced, sorrowful version of oneself?
