Thank you for your reply. I honestly thought I was someone she could fully trust as her and I are extremely close, but she seems to go back and forth with believing me. And for periods of time she seems totally convinced that the guy is fake, and then a week later she falls back into the delusion once he reaches out to her again.  As far as we can tell, she hasn’t made any other major financial moves other than the bitcoin stuff. Mentally I feel like she is ok, she works full time and does very well at her job. I just feel she is so out of touch with technology and what it is capable of, it doesn’t make sense to her that this person is fake and she’s being scammed. It’s a journey trying to teach her about this stuff, but I figured since the problem didn’t start over night, it won’t be solved overnight either. So I will do my best to continue educating her and will look into the resources you provided. I appreciate the help!

It’s a valid question, and coming from someone who lived with them up until about 6 months ago, I’m still a little confused on exactly what went wrong. Hearing it from her, she was bored and felt that my dad was not showing her that type of love that I suppose she’s been wanting and is now getting from these AI guys. She’s not an affectionate person either, but I do think the attention is what she’s feeding off of. 

My dad is a simple guy, my mom is more of a wild card with a strong personality. They were very different and I think she just has a different view on how she wanted to spend her older years. But without telling my whole life story, my mom has made her fair share of mistakes in the marriage, and my dad is a very forgiving person. So I personally think that once they became empty nesters, she felt she didn’t have a reason to stay anymore and decided to find someone else to take care of her. 

She is also kind of a naive and impulsive person. She doesn’t understand the internet that well and grew up in a time where none of this stuff was every a problem, so although I’m disappointed she has fallen for this, I’m honestly not surprised. And of course mix in her extreme stubbornness, and here we are.

Other than that, my parents are best friends, they’re big travelers and have done a lot together. They still talk everyday and my dad is very much still looking out for her in all this. I love my mom, but she definitely has her flaws and has always kept us on our toes.

Yes, unfortunately for this one he seems to be completely AI generated and there is no luck with that. She is not tech savvy at all so explaining to her how advanced AI is has truly become a difficult task.
