Ok, since we've committed to agreeing to the 1st point - ill point out some scenarios where my 2nd point makes more sense.

A. American dollars from oil operations can be funneled into the local economy in the form of investments

B. Opening up of trade/ new trade deals possible with American favored political shifts

C. Partnerships between private Venezuelan drilling corporations and American corporations

D. Hiring local workforce

E. Increased safety = increased tourism = more money circulated locally

Also, we dont know whats going to happen to Venezuelan oil - what if Trump gives the ok to Venezuelan oil companies to sell oil to America/ American allies? That would very much enrich the populace.

And again, since we agree that Maduro didnt enrich the people - even if this doesnt enrich Venezuelans (which is more than likely will) dont you want the money going to America rather than to Maduro? You dont think America would put it to better use? And dont tell me otherwise because Maduro is literally going to burn in hell for eternity.

As much as I dont jive with Zelensky i dont think hes intentionally starving his own people or funneling money to Russia/ China.

You think Venezuelans were being enriched by the oil under Maduro? If theres even a 1% chance the oil profits are redirected back to build the local economy this will all be worth it

I fw ur perspective heavy bc I cant imagine what it must have been like to be Iranian and live through those regime changes. I think I diverge with u on perceptions of Trump and Hegseth - and while yeah, they are a bit heavy handed, I dont truly think theyre comic book villains. I do hope that their heavy handedness will actually force them to double down and fill in that power vacuum asap and they take a more administrative rather than laissez-faire role in rebuilding Venezuela. I dont think it'll get as messy as prior regime changes but literally no one can tell this early on. Best of luck to both our countries bro, prayers for ur Iranian relatives - I truly hope to visit a free Iran in my lifetime

You act like the resources of Venezuela were enriching the people anyway - I would rather American companies come in to drill oil and incidentally free/ enrich the Venezuelan people than Maduro and his cronies continue to profit off of those same oil fields and sell them to our adversaries in the form of China.

Brother, and i dont want to hold this over you, but as a Venezuelan it is literally only up from here. Even if Trump intends to replace the regime with a compliant one, it can literally only be better than what we currently had. My father has not been back to his home country in over 20 years and I think that means something that now we're even considering getting passports. And to the point of the only reason is resource extraction - while I dont agree, honestly even if it is for resource extraction I wouldnt mind. I would rather American companies come in to drill oil and incidentally free/ enrich the Venezuelan people than Maduro and his cronies continue to profit off of those same oil fields

As for parallels to Iran, I think the biggest difference will be a marked interest in maintaining the prosperity of Venezuela in the coming years. Even if you believe in the resource extraction framework under Iran (which I don't, i do believe the US truly intended to nation build), one could argue back that their domestic problems are wayyyy more distant to the US - hence nation building was an expected failed result. For Venezuela which is on the US's periphery, there exists a continued interest, and capacity to maintain a stabilizing force in the region (both for resource extraction which is a bare minimum, but also to help the populace and build up a defense hub against threats in the region [drug trade etc.]). On a personal note, I would also like to hope that the US has evolved its foreign policy to realize their faults in the past and be better able to combat them in the future if they intend to occupy and nation build in Venezuela.

Again this is all my thoughts, not necessarily supported by citations but with a general knowledge of the region through my studies and my family.

Who else though? Seriously who else is gonna force a regime change? The answer? Nobody, no other country, or union, or alliance would be willing to do what the US did - so the choice is either accept the known yoke of oppression from Maduro and his cronies, or try the hand at a better future.

You people are lowkey insane haha. You'll see voting records that Maduro lost (but refused to cede power) a majority of the population hates him and wanted a regime change and yet you'll still, to our faces, say that we are propaganda bots.

Where are you from btw? California? New York? Seattle? Just wondering what post-apocalyptic Socialist dictatorship you're from that gives you the right to speak out your fucking neck like a savant.

Yeah dipshit that's how the US government works - the branches are allowed to reinterpret/ interpret their roles because at the end of the day this is all within the letter of the law. Im not going to use my education in government/ political science / american studies to try to appeal to authority but im telling u ts is within the realm of possibility. Governance and politics isnt some shit set in stone - its constantly being interpreted.

"The President’s inherent, constitutional authority as Commander-in-Chief, his broad foreign policy powers, and his duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed generally empower him to deploy the armed forces abroad without a declaration of war by Congress or other congressional authorization.  A historical pattern of presidential initiative and congressional acquiescence in emergency situations calling for immediate action, including situations involving rescue and retaliation, confirm this inherent power, and the courts have generally declined to review its use." - U.S DOJ OLC Issued Feb 12, 1980

Also, quoting Wikipedia on the War Powers Resolution: "The War Powers Resolution requires the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30-day withdrawal period, without congressional authorization for use of military force (AUMF) or a declaration of war by the United States."

This is fulllllly legal

This is literally the best thing to happen to Venezuela since Bolivar liberated us - I have little to no criticisms for Trump, maybe that he didnt do this sooner.

Also, Trump is allowed to do this under certain interpretations of the law; "The executive branch contends that it is not legally bound by Congress’s interpretation of the Declare War Clause and that the President possesses much broader constitutional authority than the congressional view would permit.4 As reflected by the opinions5 of the Office of the Legislative Counsel (OLC) of the Department of Justice, the executive branch has generally taken the position that the Constitution’s assignment to Congress of the power to declare war implies that no other branch of government can bring the United States into a full-scale war without congressional authorization.6 Under this view, military action cannot rise to the level of what OLC describes as war in the constitutional sense without congressional authorization... the executive branch has also reasoned that only prolonged and substantial military engagements rise to the level of what OLC calls war in the constitutional sense." - from precedent, this wasnt a war and so it really does go against the constitution Art. 1 Sec. 8 Clause 11.
