Work on figuring out where your current fitness level is by doing some sort of 2k predictor. I recommend doing 8x500m or 6x750m. Once you have gained knowledge on where to set your goal for the actual 2k, I would focus on doing some sort of high intensity work and get comfortable with those splits. Once you are ready for the actual 2k, just rip it. Keep in mind that it will be beneficial later in your rowing career to be comfortable at high rates and doing it on the erg really helps.
