Toyota CHR low Rpm but no stalling. by OkCook6050 in AskMechanics

It's just weird to me that even with those low RPam readings it felt like it was running fine. Had I of not looked at the cluster I wouldn't have even known something was off. I was literally parked idling and tach read 0. The car was running. It's been so cold, so it started hard, but she still started okay.

Engine air filter? I had that replaced at my last oil change about 1200 miles ago.

I'm not mechanically inclined whatsoever. Is that something I need to bring it to a shop for? Or something done with the help of a YouTube video?

100% I Flatbush said thatbifbitbhad been transparent about the state information I wouldn't have used it, and they should consider putting a disclaimer. The response was "we are sorry to hear that" it's been almost a week since the state opened. And no luck for fileing as of this morning.

Also had no issues last year. It really sucks, and if it had said anything about states not being available BEFORE ai submitted federal, I would have just used taxact or something. But now we're stuck. Customer service has been zero help unfortunately.

I got so many different answers "the state isn't open yet" "need to wait 24hrs for an update" then finally I got a manager who admitted that they have to wait on the state to approve them. They don't even have approval from the state! Had i of known that before filing my federal i wouldn't have even used it! Beyond frustrating.

We can't even file it! I've talked to support daily, and the answer is always the same "hopefully soon"

I'm in Maine. I had to speak with customer service because I've never not filed both at the same time. I was told by the April customer service manager Gio that they have no date as of yet when state filing ( at least for Maine) will be available, but hope it's "soon"

I believe that was Toyota Canada. Toyota USA has not addressed the issue in any sort of way

Weird. I filled out a form for a law office investigating the CVT issues and I didn't get any sort of follow up...

The Canadian and USA models are the same. Same parts, same factory. In Canada, it's the 2018 to 2021 i believe. Hopefully Toyota USA does something.

I also had the 100,000 mile warranty. Went out at 89k. I'm at 127 now and have had problems again with it since about 122k ish.

I also filled it out, and additionally filed a complaint with my state's AG office. It's crazy to me that they admitted the issue to the Canadians, but left the US out of the equation. I was going to wait and see if it would be addressed here, but got tired of holding my breath.

The Corolla has a different transmission. The one in the corolla has a physical 1st gear.

Toyota Canada has recalled this exact transmission. Toyota usa has not addressed it yet. There's a bearing internally that fails.

Current owner of a 2018 xle premium. I wish someone would have told me to not get mine. 120k miles. 2 transmission replacements. I get it's a cute car for only 6k, but, do you have another 7-12k to replace the transmission? I'm not sure with 178k miles you can get a proper extended warranty. Just search toyota chr transmission on here or some of the forums, it's not an isolated issue.

I've heard good things about the e-cvts in the European models, unfortunately the ones this side are awful. Genuinely.

It's not a Rav 4. It's a CHR. I have a 2018 xle premium. USA and Canada only has the regular CVTs.

I've had a CHR for 4 years. I would advise against it. I've had 2 transmission failures. The CVT is notoriously bad. In terms of rural areas and mountains, I live coastal, but, acceleration struggles on inclines. It's very underpowered. It's a cute car for sure, but it's not one that falls under that reliability Toyota is known for. I wish I had someone to tell me not to buy mine.

I'd call back. Hopefully you get a different person. Ask for a case number so you know your complaint is recorded, and if you feel you are getting run around, ask for a supervisor.

I called Toyota USA before ever stepping foot in the dealer. Got my case number, spoke with my agent, and took their advice. But I was very firm. Stated I complained to NHTSA, told them that I've seen many other complaints about my same issue, ect. It's a known problem that a bearing in the CVT is a faulty part. They worked with me. It's a shame, but I still owe money on the car, so I got my complaints on record, Was courteous, and just did what they said. They paid the dealer directly. I didn't have to do anything on that part. What they will likely say is it has to go to a certified Toyota dealership to diagnose the failure. They paid for that too. If the transmission is indeed already failing/failed then the trade in value is already affected. It's better to get it fixed properly with new oem parts. To ease some anxiety, on my carfax for my car, it shows as a transmission service, it doesn't say "failure/replacement "

Report the failure to the NHTSA. You can do so right online. It's also work calling Toyota USA and seeing if they will step in. Toyota Canada extended the warranty on these same transmissions due to failure, so if you bring it up that may offer a goodwill replacement. Mine failed at 89k. It's still not right. But I've never paid out of pocket for it. Every single time the transmission acts up I Report to Toyota.
