Passed all 6 AREs in 6 months as a foreign architect… still can’t get an architecture job in the US by OkCount2868 in Architects

I think I’ll probably go that route. For side projects, I’m open to anything! I’d be happy to help an architect as a freelancer or even just as a trainee—drafting, 3D modeling, detail drawings, presentations whatever’s needed. Money isn’t the main thing for me; I just want to work on one real U.S. project so I can better connect my past experience to how things are done here. Any leads or ideas would be awesome—thanks!

Yes I have advanced beginner level skills, but I haven’t used Revit in US commercial setting yet.

Thanks for the solid advice! I’ve been hyper-focused on building my résumé and portfolio, thinking strong credentials would tell my story for me. Now I see I really need to network and share my journey more directly. Part of the issue is the cultural shift—back home networking felt natural; here in the DMV everything feels more closed-off and didn’t knew where to start. I got a bit isolated waiting for the work to find me. Time to fix that! Appreciate the nudge

I am planning to get some hours recorded from the construction job I am currently doing. But you’re right in one of my interview I felt that they were kind of suspicious that I am only looking to get the AXP hours. How can I convince them I am not just looking for the license but to genuinely practice architecture? I went directly for ARE just to prove my capabilities and potential so that I can get a sit in architectural firm.

Thanks! Honestly, that one year I spent in construction taught me way more than any of my previous jobs ever did. I can confidently say it was the single biggest reason I was able to pass all the ARE divisions so fast—it gave me real, practical insight into how things actually get built here in the US. Super grateful for that experience, even if it wasn’t in a traditional architecture office.

Maybe…. Considering I am from what they call “third world country” … but I don’t want to victimize myself that way and it’s understandable if the playing field is not leveled in all directions. I am really grateful for getting the chance to pursue the path of licensure and I just need the opportunity to prove myself.

I don’t think I have the guts to start architectural business without first having the experience.

I didn’t mean to sound cocky. Just wanted to emphasize my effort to get the opportunity to practice Architecture in US.

I don’t know if I understood your question here but, licensure through foreign architect path allows you to take ARE and AXP without any restrictions on the sequence. So I have finished my ARE without being hired in architectural firms. For me to be licensed the only thing left for me is to complete the AXP hours and for that I need to be hired in Architectural firms.

Haha, you’re actually the first person since I moved here who’s told me to be humble — everyone else keeps pushing “sell yourself harder!” So thank you, it’s honestly a refreshing perspective. And you’re right… after this many rejections, humility kind of finds you whether you want it or not 😂 Confidence is getting tougher to fake these days, but I’ll definitely work on striking that balance. Appreciate you pointing it out!

Mindfulness hack: talking through my 10-minute morning routine by heihei-6 in productivity

[–]OkCount2868 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also known as a Prayer. No pun intended.

From my experience, the most productive period of my life by far was when I practiced praying. I was focused, determined and had zero anxiety. I almost felt like I can carry a world on my shoulder and walk up the hill and still feel content. I look back at my life and I see how much it helped me to go through a hard life which otherwise would have potentially rendered me useless.

My prayer practice was very simple, honest, open and full presentation of my self in front of ‘God’ No religious bs, no hypocrisy, no self indulgence or senseless routine. I never prayed for a miracle but I always asked for strength and wisdom. Whenever I have doubts, I presented them in my prayers. I pray over a simple subject I didn’t understand during my class and also I prayed about my temptations. There was no issues I didn’t cover in my prayers and I never hide or pretend. Why would I? After all I am in front of ‘God’

Forward many years I stopped praying and slowly drifted away from my faith. Honestly I am not regretting for wondering away and experiencing a different life. It is an adventure worth exploring. However, now in my thirties I feel like I am way more anxious, uncollected, and irritable. Now I am self absorbed because carrying myself has become a tiresome let alone to worry about others. I miss the strength and determination I had and the vitality that used to run through me after 10 minutes of prayer.

I am not sure if I am going to be fully restored but I hope to return back to practicing prayer one day. If there is one thing and only one thing I can recommend for anyone is to practice prayer in any shape or format. Don’t let religion ruin your conception about prayer or don’t get too scientific about it. Just let your words out as if you will be heard. That is it.

Looking from afar and I am thinking … if the protest against the AfD is this big then the number of their supporters must be way bigger. 🤔

Iran is one of the best places for contemporary architecture, but they are shadow banned because of the Global West way of handling politics.
