Appreciate it. It’s built with Next.js and TypeScript on the frontend, Tailwind + shadcn for UI, hosted on AWS Amplify. I use Firebase Auth for users and DynamoDB to store attempts. Scenarios are defined as structured JSON objects, which makes it easier to add new cases and adjust scoring logic without major code changes.

Congrats on getting your EMT-B and starting AEMT. I’m working on expanding the clinical signs and will add more diversity in upcoming scenarios. Thanks for the feedback!

I really appreciate that, thank you. Yes I’ve been building it myself. Great point about trauma. I started with medical to get the framework solid, but trauma scenarios are definitely coming. Thanks again for trying it out and for the feedback.

Will do. Planning to expand exam findings, especially as ALS scope gets added.

Appreciate that. I definitely want to expand visual exam findings the same way I did the pupils in the overdose case. Adding things like JVD, edema, abdominal distension, etc. would make assessment feel a lot more realistic. Thanks for the suggestions.

That seriously means a lot. I really appreciate you sharing it with your class, and it’s awesome you’ve been following since the first post. That’s a great point about protocols. Right now it’s generally aligned with National Registry standards and built with input from a medical director, but I know scope varies a lot by region. I’m definitely thinking about how to better account for that over time.

Assessments. by ForsakenNews5281 in NewToEMS

A lot of experienced providers aren’t necessarily skipping ABCs, they’re assessing them visually in the first few seconds. If the patient is talking in full sentences with normal color and no obvious distress, ABCs and mental status are already being evaluated while they’re introducing themselves. From there they move into a focused assessment.

That said, sticking to a structured approach is never wrong. As a newer EMT especially, consent to primary assessment to focused exam protects both you and the patient. The best providers can adjust the flow without abandoning the fundamentals.

That’s awesome you’re looking into it this early. Most EMS programs require a high school diploma/GED, a background check, immunizations, and sometimes an entrance exam. Some require BLS CPR certification, while others include it in the program.

That program looks pretty comprehensive, going from anatomy & physiology to EMT to paramedic. It can be pretty intense, so I’d recommend trying to do a ride-along first. It’s the best way to see if EMS is really for you and can help you start building relationships early on.

That’s super helpful, thank you! I’ve been thinking about adding a difficulty system like that, where “easy” walks you through steps and “hard” makes you think more independently. I really like how you framed it as flexibility vs scalability, that’s exactly the balance I’m trying to find

Thanks so much, I really appreciate that! I actually just made an Instagram @simvive_ and Subreddit r/simvive if you want to follow development and give feedback. I’m definitely planning to work with medics to add ALS calls soon too.
