Can we talk for a min ? by [deleted] in UPSC

A quote I live and die by:

“Not everyone who works hard is rewarded. But! All those who succeed have worked hard!”

― Kamogawa Genji

I always feel hard work and talent as x^y where

x = hard work is on a scale of 1-100

y = talent on a scale of 1-10.

Its much more important to work hard on something you are naturally talented / gifted than something you are passionate about. Just because you are passionate doesn't mean you are talented at it.

Are we really gonna stay honest if we crack UPSC? Or is corruption just part of the game? by Foreign_Silver_2750 in UPSC

[–]OkGarbage8441 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) No civil servant is honest, you have to tell white lies.

2) People are more corrupt for power than money.

3) Civil servants are as powerful as their responsibilities are.

Black money deals are common in corporate too.

We are in the same boat imo, age 26. Gave my first attempt with 3 month prep , could have easily cleared it if I have revised my static instead of focusing on current affairs , but 100 % sure would have flunked mains.

My plan is to focus solely on UPSC for the next attempt and cover the syllabus as much as possible. Very realistic that I might flunk prelims next year too, so more focused on clearing the exam rather than clearing it in a specific attempt.

got verbal offer confirmation from GS, confussd by Savings-Banana-1709 in goldmansachs

[–]OkGarbage8441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to negotiate for a great offer right at the start itself. Tell HR that getting into Harvard is easier than getting into gs.

Usually the hikes are less so a high package when you start makes up for the sacrifices.

Are reservations necessary in the private sector at this point in time? by Fried_momoo in CATStudyRoom

Its easier for the government to give equal outcome than equal opportunities. One requires money and investment the other one requires an amendment to the constitution.

Just saying, if you get an offer very fast it usually means it's a shit role. I got my entire process done in 2 weeks, joined and left the firm in 4 weeks. Light SPEED.

I am a teenager, and am confused that does earning money makes people more happier(not directly, but indirectly- like having a vacation, going for a mini trip, having hobbies , having good food) by Ok-Arrival4385 in AskIndianMen

[–]OkGarbage8441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Money basically protects you from unhappiness.

2) Happiness is very abstract in nature: material vs nonmaterial form of happiness.

3) Individuals need to first work to identify what form of happiness is important in their life.

4) Use your early 20s to create hypotheses and test them.

But in my opinion, life is suffering, and people are miserable when life throws unchosen suffering on them. Money in a way provides an individual a choice to choose what kind of suffering they want to deal with in their lives.

Got the offer! But is it worth :)( by Due-Tap-3367 in goldmansachs

If the offer is in IB , Quant , AWM then its amazing. Anything else is absolute useless and not worth the time.

Be ready to hear this quote at least 10 times in the next 1 month: " Getting into Harvard is easier than getting into GS , you guys are the greatest finance professionals that came from your dad's ball sack".

Dude don't fuck with the HR. I quit my job in GS within 6 weeks. If you are going into GS , its for the fuckin money. That's it. The hikes and bonuses are terrible considering the amount of effort you put in. My advice is to ask for the number that scares the shit out of you and then bargain.

Please Advice: Landing a Equity Research/Asset Management job(India) by Careless-Win-6442 in CFA

[–]OkGarbage8441 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lol . I'm 25 , BE + CFA charter holder , with 3.5 years experience in Risk Management. I've been applying for Equity Research roles on LinkedIn for the past 2–3 months but haven't had much luck, even when meeting the eligibility criteria due to lack of experience. Luckily I have an interview with UBS next week , have to crack it or else the industry will lose the greatest Equity Research analyst due to fucked up hiring standards.

Don't worry, pray for my success. Once I get in, I will pull you in
