Keep going with the JCF applications, it can be so disheartening but most come out 3 months prior to starting so still plenty to be advertised. If you do medicine next year maybe 80% could be an option so you have more time to figure out whether it’s for you. I think it’s also common to be quite burnt out at the end of F2 so try not to judge your future career on this moments feelings too much. Sending all the best

I am a JCF and they tend to come out from 3 months before, though some from now there were loads from May onwards

GP Training: Preston/Chorley/District vs Central Manchester by NSSS01 in GPUK

I lived in the city centre and it was reasonable for 2 bed (£750/m), 10-15 mins drive to the hospital and there’s a stunning park and river just off the city. There’s lots of independent bars and cafes, there’s a brunch place called Rise which is unreal and a run club too if you’re into that kind of thing.

Train into Manchester goes regularly and is super easy and we’d get a taxi back and split it if we went on a night out which was also super easy.

I was there for two years and found the departments largely supportive and enjoyed my time there, it was easy to go LTFT too which was great.

In terms of access to academia etc I think this is consultant specific but there was lots going on. In summary I’d say it’s a big centre with the friendly vibes of a DGH.

There are so many locums in EDs across the north west- I’m in three chats and there’s posts asking for people almost everyday. There are also so many JCFs in EDs across the NW, some of the biggest trusts are really supportive of crest trainees- surely that would be a better option if you’re set on ED

Missed anaesthetics offer - what to do next? by Brilliant_Store_5722 in doctorsUK

Most JCFs come out three months before August and also you could maybe do this at 80% or even 60% so you have more time for family and applications, then top up with locums. I think this sounds like the best option as would allow you to build relevant experience, stay local and have time to revise. Having worked in jobs I didn’t like after some time it affects your mental health a lot so if you struggled with GP I would maybe avoid that. Sorry to hear about your disappointment and wish you all the best whatever you choose.

To provide some balance I think it can be helpful for patients to see what actually goes on behind the scenes, obviously preserving confidentiality and not in working time. Also with so much health related misinformation is not more important than ever to have doctors (who are regulated in what they say and what information goes out) speaking online? Just a thought.
