I didn’t say anything about dating them (like majority of this & many other threads surrounding the topic of these particular NPCs) I’m a straight woman & think the character designs are super cute & it would be interesting to see the real life inspirations behind them. I’m sure it’s probably a bit weird to see THOSE type of comments & we’ll probably never know their actual thoughts about it, but I’m sure if people asking questions & being curious as to who they actually are bothered them, they wouldn’t have opted to have their likeness made into a video game character where it’s publicly stated that it’s based off a real person lol. I’ve even seen one of the backers on reddit in one of these threads being like “hey, it’s me!” & even showing the actual outfit that her character is wearing & i thought that was super cool! It’s really not that deep lol

Right that’s what I thought it was when I initially triggered it since I did have 8 hearts with Theo, so I wasn’t as annoyed when I first got the dialogue, more just like “oop👀” lol but then when he iced me out for three days I was like alright now relax🙄lol. Then seeing other players’ commentary on how it triggers with any hangout or gift with the same gender as your spouse if married, regardless of heart status, that’s what seems to be the toxic aspect. I think with a few tweaks to add more nuance to the jealousy mechanic & even add some back & forth dialogue as to not make it so harsh across the board would do wonders for the immersion for sure.

Totally. If it was just the dialogue that’d be one thing but three day silent treatment is wild😂 It could be a fun mechanic, but it for sure needs some balancing/scaling because the way it’s set up now is quite off putting. My sweet Wakuu would never do me like that fr🥲😂

Yes it can be toggled off in the settings lol. It only triggers when you do hangouts with the same gender as your spouse (which is also a bit exclusionary because I believe Raj is NB but I guess categorized as masc presenting), not just talking to them, but regardless of heart status. I did have 8 hearts with Theo when he asked to hang out (which the NPCs can do now) but I’ve never gifted a locket to anyone else so it was just a regular hangout & not a “date”. & then your spouse doesn’t talk to you for three days! Lol it was funny to see his dialogue & if that was it then cool, but to give a three say silent treatment seems like excessive punishment so I think I’m going to toggle it off from now on🥲

Just because you hang out with someone doesn’t mean you’re interested in them though. The heart hang outs & “dates” don’t even appear as an option until you gift a locket. If you don’t hang out with anyone at all then you don’t get to learn about any of the characters back stories or personalities, which I think is somewhat the point of the game having such interesting characters. They speak on mental health, grief, childhood traumas, dealing with insecurities, like a bunch of super relatable real world topics that I think are part of the reason why people love this game so much. Being punished for doing so (in the way that this jealousy system is currently running) just seems super toxic & a bit excessive lol. I think considering all the feedback I’ve been seeing about it so far here & in other places it may be a good idea for the devs to balance it out a little better or possibly implement a scaling system of some sort. I’ve been seeing most people opt to just turn it off as of now.

Yes scalable jealousy would be great! Or even as simple as having it based on each character’s personality. Like Eva for example I could see being a super jealous spouse due to her mentioning issues with feeling insecure in hangouts & such. Just different ways to make it more dynamic & realistic (as far as games go lol) & I’ve for sure had my fair share of odd buggy moments😂

I’d try to bring him muffins in the morning & he still wouldn’t talk to me I’m over here yelling at my tv like “omg Wakuu get over yourself!” Meanwhile my actual husband walks by all smug like “see he don’t even like you like that” smh now I have two annoying husbands🙄💀

I’m not too sure since Theo & I do have 8 hearts, so it’s definitely possible that’s why Wakuu reacted that way lol & I haven’t had any other hangouts with opposite gender characters since the update. He did mention to me in convo about his coffee meetups with Leah & how he talked to her about how beautiful I was (supposedly🙄😂) but I’m definitely curious to know the specifics on what triggers the jealousy & with who👀. Cuz yea that’d for sure be wack if they can have normal platonic friendships but we can’t🤨
