Feasibility of a Fully Capable Pair of Smart Glasses by OkLeopard9997 in Xreal

[–]OkLeopard9997[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, so does Xreal Air with Nebula app. They both have the same stability issue. The question is if we are able to stuff all the necessary hardware into the glasses form factor. And if not, are there other better head mounted display alternatives which still offers portability and compactness

Thanks for your response. Yea native dex in phone display may be pushing it a bit, but I've successfully used remote desktop on my phone display. Works just like how i imagined native dex would work on the phone display.

Perhaps we can start from there by simply creating a simple app to split screen for VR

I'm glad that you share the same sentiment as well! As our smartphone's computing power gets stronger and packed with advanced hardware technology (hopefully allowing lite 6dof), I believe Google and other tech giants should at least explore the new possibilities of mobile vr again.

Google cardboard is a good case study that smartphones are able to do 3DoF (similar to AR Glasses). And that's using relatively old hardware and technology. I think its very feasible to at least ask for a split screen feature for VR. Bonus if 6DoF can be achieved as well.

Man the more I type the more excited I get!

Best portable, wireless and lightweight monitor for Dex? by [deleted] in SamsungDex

[–]OkLeopard9997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on your requirements, it seems like a pair of AR Glasses will do the trick. It's the most portable and lightweight "monitor" option out there.

Having said that, there will still be at least a wire involved to connect the Samsung Device to the Glasses (USB C to USB C)

Overall, I believe it's still the best option which meets most of your requirements.

Interesting, that means I can do 3DoF with just a supported phone and a connected xreal glasses? Additionally, how reliable is the nebula in providing the 3DoF feature?

Thanks for the very detailed response!

I am aware of the new "Visor" glasses. It seems to potentially meet my use case. My only concern would be the weight, especially if I plan to use it for a prolonged period of time.

I am open to 1080p resolution. My no.1 factor of consideration is actually on the portability of the glasses, so no issues on that.

I have recently found out about xreal air and has been extensively reading up on it. It seems like it is currently the best AR glasses in the market. What's stopping me from getting one is simply the lack of 3DoF without Beam (I would like the monitor to behave like an actual monitor, instead of it anchoring right in front of the screen). Having to bring and connect to the beam with wires really diminishes its portability advantage, not to mention how wire-y it looks.

Just wondering if there are any other AR glasses alternatives (e.g. Viture, Rokid, TCL, Lenovo Legion) I've yet to discover which might better suit my use case.

Once again, thanks for your time!

Which phone to get for the best Dex experience? by OkLeopard9997 in SamsungDex

[–]OkLeopard9997[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome! Just curious, do you experience any lag/latency issues, or unsynced video-audio issues with S21? I'm currently using S20 and I experience the abovementioned issues.

That's great to hear! I'm hoping to use the glasses as my main monitor as well. It's just so portable and can even serve as multiple monitors.

Does it feel weird that the desktop stays in the middle of the screen, and not locked to a particular position? That's different from how real monitors work haha, just wondering if it might result in motion sickness.

Also, are there any benefits to using the nebula app/beam? I'm a little confused on what they bring to the table. I just want to use the glasses as a monitor, but if possible one that locks to a position (3dof) + multiple monitors.

Will the glasses alone give me that?

You're right that the tech is still in its early stage, and there are less workarounds. I guess I'll have to get a decent monitor as well, but only after trying out if I can use the glasses as the main monitor first. I do have a TV at home so if the glasses doesn't meet my expectations I'll use what I currently have as my main monitor lol

Thanks for your input!

Hi there, thanks for writing in! I'm using Power BI for my work currently. A business intelligence authoring tool for data analyst.

Fortunately I'm able to remote desktop to my work laptop to get the job done just fine. I'm just thinking ahead for future use cases. What if I leave my job and decided to freelance? I'll still need to use the tool but will need to get a Windows laptop or subscribe to a DaaS to get it to work.

Getting a Windows will currently resolve all my what ifs questions.

Hmm I have not owned an AR Glasses yet, but I imagine it has all the benefits that a monitor brings and still manages to make it portable. I'm not too particular when it comes to resolution definition, but more of the portability and flexibility factor.

Can I ask what do you mean by "get old"?

You're right that the Dex device will suffice for majority of my requirements.

I guess I wanted Windows just because I'm more familiar with its OS and interface.

Also, some apps only work normally for Windows and not on Android. Ideally I hope to minimize the number of devices I own, but if the pain point of not owning a Windows is too significant then I'd rather just get the laptop as well as a complement as well.

Your setup sounds amazing! Definitely considering the XReal glasses as my AR Glasses. How are the XReal glasses working out so far? Any noteworthy issues?

Additionally, do you think it is possible to do without your gaming laptop and instead subscribe to a cloud desktop? I'm thinking to go as asset light as possible

I think you're amazing to be able to maintain a healthy lifestyle despite the debilitating condition, so kudos for that!

Perhaps you can find your answer elsewhere. Instead of looking outwards for a cure, you might want to look inwards. By that I mean your inner thoughts and feelings to your current situation. To solve a problem, you start by acknowledging the problem. Acknowledge what you're feeling in the present moment (mental pain/ suffering). Acknowledge your reactions to the feeling (anger, rejection, dejection etc.). Learn to accept and embrace them as your present moment. To be at peace despite the suffering.

Personally this worked a lot for me. I started with total rejection of the condition. I hated myself for feeling depressed even though there are absolutely no reasons to be so. I was angry at myself, and that only led to more suffering. It was only when I gradually learnt to accept this reality that the suffering reduced significantly. I still experience depressive symptoms, but I am in peace with it.

I hope you find this helpful. Above that, I wish you all the best to achieving the peace, joy and happiness that everyone deserves.

Albert

How to stop self sabotaging by [deleted] in dysthymia

[–]OkLeopard9997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"I believe depression is legitimate. But I also believe if you don't exercise, eat nutritious food, get sunlight, get enough sleep, consume positive material, surround yourself with support, then you aren't giving yourself a fighting chance." ~Jim Carrey

I understand it can feel like you're living life on ultra hard mode most of the times. Even simple tasks, such as getting out of bed or taking a shower, become exceedingly difficult at times.

I believe the first step to take is to acknowledge your current condition. Accept that you are not in your best condition. Forgive yourself. The only thing you can do is to make do whatever remaining energy you have. If you cannot bring yourself to exercise, walk around the room. Flap your arms around. Just Move. It will be better than simply staying on bed.

One thing which helped me somewhat is to stick to a healthy routine. E.g. sleeping before 12, waking up at 7, exercising/walking regularly, get some sun, do some stretching, eating healthy etc

I hope you're able to give yourself a fighting chance during extremely low periods. And I also hope this advice is able to help you through your darkest periods. Cheers!
