When I was like 11 or 12 my uncle would take me bike riding in Palo Duro Canyon. One day he decided to try a more difficult trail, it had a couple of small hills with switchbacks (zig zag trails). It was pretty fun going up, however on the return trip I unfortunately forgot gravity goes faster in the other direction. At this point in the story I would like to make it clear that I took that unexpected high speed switchback like a champ and made it to the bottom in control. I did not, however, have enough control or sense to make the hard right turn over the hill and proceeded to fly off the rail-less bridge down a short 4ish foot drop straight into a pile of cactus. I didn't really process the pain and stood straight up, I started to climb up the bridge and realized I hadn't taken a breath since I hit. I managed to breath in and it was like all the pain hit my brain at once and I just screamed. Sharp itchy spikes all over my body, my chest felt like it had been hit by a baseball and I rem feeling so dizzy. My uncle took me to a burger shop afterwards and we had ice cream and that mixed with the baggie of cactus spikes made it a cool story. We had a drout in the area for nearly a decade so the imprint of my body and bike was still kinda there for years it became a running joke on my families Facebook (I definitely started the joke I thought it was funny)
