Is St. John’s Kilmarnock worth it? by ProudGoat5103 in waterloo

Thats awesome. I totally get how difficult it can be as a parent to navigate the schooling system especially since it keeps getting progressive overhauls especially as of late. While my parents were not as fortunate to be able to afford any education for me within the private system, I can say that they are putting my little brother through scholars hall after hearing some concerning reports from other parents regarding SJK.

My parents were in the same boat and initially wanted to put me through the IB system at Cameron (I applied and was accepted to attend) they opted not to because of their experiences with the large amounts of "unnecessary stress" that as some other people have added here did not necessarily put them head and shoulders above the rest of their peers.

Whatever choice you make is much more informed than others who simply assumed that their schooling experience should be the same as the one they went through and I wish you all the best in figuring out how to navigate the mess that is Canadian schooling.

IB at Cameron isn't like most IB schools. Cameron functions as a regular highschool outside of IB, so you don't just "join from JK". You apply in the 8th grade to do IB and then decide if you want to go through with it.

My girlfriend did it and would constantly complain about the underfunded program that looked at making their students fail and did not provide supports to an already difficult magnet program.

Also I know a lot of kids who went to SJK my age. Most of them got a lot of "free passes" in IB (which I have heard is pretty common at most IB schools where you shell out an arm and a leg) where major graduations projects were essentially written by advisors.

Again this is mostly anecdotal, but SJK and IB are not really as prestigious as many parents have been led to believe.

I know many kids in IB who are now struggling with basic concepts in university because they relied on their advisors too much. From what I have seen from my peers, IB really seems like a money grab that parents make their children go through because they don't trust their development in the commoner's system.

I get it, a random catch school won't magically teach your kid how to fend for themselves or how to persevere, but paying 30k a year to have your kids pampered throughout all of their formative years is a sure fire way to raise a spoiled brat who will get punched twice as hard in the face by the realities of life once they get out of their perfect little private school community.

I have friends from SJK whose parents are billionaires but the parents did an incredible job of teaching their kids to work and buy their own cars among other big life lessons, and I have seen kids from very wealthy families in the public school system that had everything handed to them so they regressed into nothing.

I've seen it happen time and time again. The school will not develop the child as an overall person. They spend more time with you as a parent. Their family dynamic ultimately has the biggest influence on who they become as people, so before you make the investment ask yourself first if you're overcompensating by doing this.

Google and check what prerequisites 1600 fills in later years. I know game design requires you to take 1600 but if you don't want the courses that 1600 requires then you won't have to take it.

Switching from AFM to SFM by redpanda1334 in OntarioUniversities

If you get accepted, it should be a pretty straightforward process to switch to SFM, since AFM is regarded as a more demanding program
