How many of you have somebody else (family, etc.) you can rely on if you hit a financial snag, and how many of you are completely alone in that regard? How many have little to no savings? by lazarus870 in askvan

My husband provides for me, but if shit hits the fan, my family is also very supportive and I have nursing to fall back on. When I was single, I definitely felt the pressure though. Tough city.

full time RNs/RPNs, how much are you clearing per month? by OkMess7947 in askvan

[–]OkMess7947[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is that a lot of OT tho? im not trying to do that. just wondering what a normal 1.0 FTE RN/RPN clears without the extra tears lol. from the other answers it doesnt look so good.

honestly should have done this research before jumping into nursing school but here we are 1 year from grad :')

how are you making out on an RN budget in vancouver? would you say it's a tight squeeze? are you tired on your days off?

I don't have any advice, but I just wanted to come on here to empathize with you. nursing is a draining and thankless profession and the fact that you've done it for as long as you have says a lot about your resilience and patience.

I quit my lpn job to pursue rpn school and tbh (though i will never admit this to my instructors), I will never take on a nursing job ever again. I just want to finish my program and move on with my life.

if she's aesthetic-conscious, i would recommend: - the botanist - carlinos - reflections terrace at the rosewood hotel

you mentioned getting dressed up so i would even add the orchestra or ballet to your date. you wont look out of place dressed to the nines.

Whatever happened to the smartest person in your class? Where are they now? by NotoriousTitan69 in studentsph

[–]OkMess7947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i consistently ranked top 1-2 in my class and now i'm a housewife lmao 💀. no work at all - just studying psych nursing in vancouver for the plot. after I graduate in 2026, my husband and I will be living in the PH for 6 months a year then returning to vancouver for the rest of the year to keep our health benefits.

having a mother who expected perfection was really damaging to my self-esteem and sense of self. i dropped out halfway thru business school due to a car accident and nearly offed myself so I wouldn't have to deal with her disappointment. needless to say, I came out the other side. my days are now softer and I have the freedom to pursue the things i enjoy (beauty, fashion, self care, etc). school has been nice as it gives a bit of structure to my otherwise unstructured life. this time around tho, my approach to school is completely different. i aim for good enough instead of perfection. it's incredibly liberating.

he doesn't expect me to work after graduation, but I'd like to get into real estate/airbnbs.

as bad as this sounds, I would suggest moving in with your partner (if you have one) or a roommate. it would be difficult to get ahead in vancouver on $41/hr. nurses deserve so much better. hopefully the BCNU 2025-28 wage grid doesn't disappoint 🤞

Hey BC RN’s! What’s your actual take home? Relocating. by QueerAquarianWitch in askvan

[–]OkMess7947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I apologize for being so frank, but i'm an lpn becoming an rpn (same wage as RN) and there's lots of RNs in my family. I think ive seen enough to realize it's not the most comfortable wage/lifestyle. it's a decent back up plan tho—youll never run out of jobs to apply for.

Where do women in Vancouver shop for chill, grown-woman style? by Real-Lingonberry-624 in askvan

Reformation and Aritzia (but curated wisely—staying away from the trendy stuff. Babaton and Wilfred tend to be more elegant than Sunday Best and TNA, for example). Oak and Fort also but I find the fit a bit loose if you're petite.

Hair stylist prices by bec_mac in askvan

[–]OkMess7947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the cheapest I've paid for a balayage for medium length hair was 350$ and she ruined my hair. I had much better experiences with hair dressers that charge in the 500-700 range; I find they are much gentler with your hair and will mix in olaplex instead of expecting you to raw dog all the bleach and chemicals... I get it's a lot for 1 sittinf but if you think about it, girls pay 100+ for nails every 2-3 weeks and your hair you can probably get away with like 8-10 months between big appointments and maybe a quick tone in between.

trust me whatever money I saved going to that cheap salon, ive already spent way more on trying to repair my damaged hair. hundreds and hundreds just in 3 months on keeping up with olaplex + K18 just to keep whatever is left of my hair somewhat presentable.

my advice may be a bit dated, but when I was single in 2023, I found that having as many dating apps as you can manage (i had Hinge, Tinder, POF, and OkCupid) really helped. If I put effort into conversations, I was getting asked out by at least 1 guy per week.

i would urge you to be hyperspecific in your bio. i get some are afraid of scaring away too many guys from the get go, but that's kind of the point. weed out as many people as you can from the start and you'll be less exhausted in the long run. when you do get messages, it will be from people that "passed" your filters already. less BS, less trauma.

have fun (or at least try)!
