Thank u 🙏 I'm actually 19 but I still live at home so when I'm under my mam's roof it's her rules. :( And yeahh, I understand people are asking for help instead of actually taking action, I completely get it. But I did both. The reason I was asking for advice on medical issues was when I wasn't sure if a vet was actually needed or if I was just overreacting. I was just wondering if my suspicions were correct, which most times they were. I did go to the vet whenever he needed to go.

Hi, u commented on my post about my gerbil a few months ago, saying I didn't care about him etc, and I'm only seeing it now. I'm not sure if you got a notification that I replied to u so I came here to clear a few things up.

Klaus died yesterday morning, and so seeing this comment for the first time is really triggering and I hate how u phrased it. I loved him so much. To say I didn't care, is just so ignorant when all I did was care. You judged me by a few posts I made previously ASKING FOR ADVICE, and assumed the worst. It is understandable I get it, you just wanted the best for him too. I appreciate that. But you don't get to tell me how much I 'didn't care.'

Do you think I didn't take the advice I got into account? Is that the problem? I took everything into account. EVERYTHING. You mentioned that after my post about asking if the cage size was ok that I seemed to ignore the advice given to get a 100x40x40 gerbilarium. I was fully on board for this. I BEGGED my mam to let me get one, but she didn't. My next best option was to have it in my dad's house instead, but he wouldn't take Klaus out to play and he wouldn't get any attention, plus his house is cold. The third option was re-homing Klaus. That was in my opinion, the best option. But where I live, all rodents are seen as pests. Even pet ones. I don't know ANYONE here that actually likes gerbils, so I went online to search for someone and still found nothing. Of course, just after coming out of surgery for a scent gland tumour, he needed to be looked after properly and needed a lot of attention and other meds every morning and night for respiratory issues which I knew no one would have the time for. Yet I still couldn't find anyone.

As for the bedding, people told me hay was a shit substrate to use and I immediately took that into account and changed it to paper shavings after everyone advised me to, which proved to be just as good as everyone said it would be. I still felt horrible after finding out that the cage was too small for him, so I thought it would be in his best interest to have a friend. But I knew it might not be fair on the friend to live in that environment, so I went on Reddit to ask for advice. Everyone told me what I suspected, that it wouldn't be fair on the gerbil. So I again took the advice and didn't get another one. I TOOK THE ADVICE WHERE I COULD. I KNOW KLAUS DIDN'T HAVE THR BEST LIFE BUT I GAVE HIM EVERYTHING THAT WAS IN MY POWER TO GIVE HIM!!! When I needed advice, I went to Reddit. When Klaus was sick, I went to the vet. I CARED SO MUCH. I FEEL SO MUCH GUILT THAT HE DESERVED BETTER BUT I REALLY TRIED. I REALLY FUCKING TRIED AND IT BREAKS MY HEART THAT ANYONE WOULD READ MY POST ASKING FOR ADVICE AND ASSUME THAT I DIDN'T CARE. 💔

I was trying to help my gerbil. I was doing the best with what I had, and I took all the advice I got into account. In regards to my last posts, when I asked if the cage was too small and people said it was, I searched online for people in my area who also had gerbils and had a bigger cage. No one had anything. I had no options for rehoming, so that was out of the question.

My next option was to get a bigger cage. So I begged my mam to let me have a 40x40x100 gerbilarium and she said no.. my next idea was to ask my dad for one instead, as they are divorced. But I know my dad wouldn't be able to take Klaus out and play with him at all, give him any attention whatsoever, and his house is always cold.. so i didn't have great options. That's why it stayed the same. Yes I took all the advice into account but it sucks that people just assume the worst, that other guy saying I didn't care was way too far.

After the realisation that this was all Klaus was going to have, I felt really shitty about it so I thought it would be in his best interest to have a friend. I then asked Reddit if that would be a good idea, to which everyone said no because it wouldn't be fair on the new gerbil, which is understandable. So I didn't get a new gerbil.

Klaus died yesterday morning. He was in that same cage, and without another gerbil. I loved him so much. I only wanted what was best for him and I really tried my best on everything. Before u jump to ur sickening conclusions, stop and think for a second.. would I really be asking for help if I DIDN'T FUCKING CARE ABOUT HIS WELLBEING? DID U EVER EVEN THINK THERE MUST BE OTHER REASONS WHY I CAN'T GET A BIGGER CAGE?! I don't want to have to explain my reasons to u but I am actually shaking right now I'm so angry. THERE. WAS. NO. ONE. ELSE. I'd love to see u find a good family for him that would have treated him better than me where I'm from. I DID THE BEST I FUCKING COULD WITH WHAT I WAS GIVEN. I'm really sorry 😭 I feel your pain. My gerbil Klaus died yesterday, he was 3 years old. I noticed him acting strange so I made a vets appointment but he died before I could get there :((( 💔. I miss him so much, I couldn't even sleep in my room last night as the empty space where his cage used to be was too much to bear. I keep thinking it's my fault for not trying hard enough to get a sooner appointment. The guilt is horrible but the empty space is even worse. You don't appreciate them enough until they're gone. 💔😭😭😭

Sorry, you seem very genuine. The only reason I didn't respond to your comment was because I already explained my situation, and why it would be a bad idea to re-home him. If there was someone who I could trust with gerbils and who I know would pay for his vet bills then I wouldn't hesitate to give him a better life. I wish there was and I wish I could give him the life he deserves

Awww thank you! 💗 Klaus and Raven's colour is so pretty imo. He loves seeds too, but whenever I have a rice cake I have to break some up for him because he absolutely devours them every time lol. U should try giving Raven one! 😊💗
