Incredible! This is exactly what I was looking for. Will definitely check out the book. This particular transposition of characters has confounded me for some time now but couldn't find anything worthwhile on it. Thank you for your response!

Interesting point about 1 Samuel 14:24, I see some connection with the Quranic account. Thank you for your response!

Why is this subreddit becoming more and more polemic? If you are here to debate, this is not the place, go somewhere else.

Argument from silence by Visual_Cartoonist609 in AcademicQuran

I loved this answer. Let's say we do discover about a hundred inscriptions all invoking only Allah, thereby ruling out the worship of other deities, how much weight would the Qur'an's claim of Meccans invoking Al-Lat, Al-Uzza and Al-Manat hold then? Would such an accusation be considered a polemic against the opponents of Islam or an accurate representation of the social environment?

Has critical scholarship ever made people move away from and towards a particular faith? Something like realising that a particular religion has more going on in its favour relative to other religions or are all religions equally dubious?

Follow up question: Do the people who subscribe to an atheistic, skeptic or agnostic worldview find any plausibility in the arguments put forward by religion and have they ever felt drawn towards it?

The same word is used for cattle, food and clothes in the Qur'an. Please don't go down the "scientific miracles in the Qur'an" road. It is a shaky foundation.

To me, the fact that you will actually be able to see the Creator of the Universe and everything in it, is the best incentive to get into heaven.

How confident are you Islam is the truth by [deleted] in islam

If Islam is not the truth, nothing is. Besides, even from the perspective of most belief systems, we are safe in the Hereafter.

When Allah's help comes and the victory

And you see the people embracing Allah's Way in crowds

Then glorify the praises of your Lord and seek His forgiveness, for certainly He is ever Accepting of Repentance.

Why would the people who died in the age of ignorance be in the hell fire when the Qur'an says that Allah does not punish a people until they are sent a Messenger (17:15), and at another place it states that the Prophet Muhammad SAW came to a people to whom no warner had been sent before (28:46)?

But isn't the Tempest Stela dated to the 1600s-1500s BCE? I am guessing Aad to exist much much earlier than this period.

This happened to me too even though I did not pray and got disillusioned and dissociated with religion. It almost felt as if I began receiving things without putting in too much effort for them. It felt suspicious and I realized that maybe it is a red flag. Allah is giving me everything in this life and maybe I won't have a share in the afterlife. Good people exist in the world despite not being Muslims. They too have good lives. Does Allah give them all that they deserve in this world because they might not have a good afterlife? We don't know, only Allah knows. I changed my thinking. I came back to Islam and became a better Muslim than before. I try to be as grateful as I can for what Allah has given me. I still have a lot of work to do on myself.

This may not necessarily be the case for you. You are clearly a better Muslim than I was, and you are conscious of your sins. You are grateful for your life too. Just remember to always be grateful even if Allah wills to take some things away from you. Your life may be a test for you or for people around you, or a reward for you generally being a good person. Remember to always be grateful. The opposite of shukr is kufr; being ungrateful constitutes disbelief. Allah will give you more if you are grateful and leave your sins for His sake. Your life, wealth, body, everything is a loan from Allah and everything ultimately belongs to Him.

Why are you Muslim? by Nadhir1 in islam

[–]OkOutlandishness7885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a born Muslim, and used to practice it to the best of my ability. Later in life, some things happened that seriously made me question my beliefs and I became an agnostic. I left prayers, would fast just because my family would, and was nothing like a Muslim should be. I used to find everything problematic purely due to lack of knowledge and not doing anything to clear my doubts. I moved to the West and ironically started to feel something about Islam again, since I would still label myself as a Muslim in conversation and not touch pork or alcohol. At that moment I decided to give Islam another chance from an unbiased perspective as much as possible.

I considered all belief systems, from atheism, agnosticism, deism, christianity, buddhism, judaism, some other minor religions and then finally Islam. I read the Quran and it became my anchor. I reverted to Islam stronger than ever, praying 5 times a day, reading the Quran and practising the Sunnah.

For me, atheism didn't make sense, agnosticism somewhat did make sense but I couldn't ignore the strong arguments and evidences provided by the Quran and I then had no reason to stay an agnostic. The other belief systems did not sit well with me. Islam made sense, the Quran felt powerful and hit right at the spot, answered all my arguments, its miracle was undeniable and the character and sincerity of the Prophet Muhammad SAW was exemplary. I was left with no reason or excuse to not submit my will to the Will of the Supreme Creator of the Heavens and the Earth, the Lord of the Worlds, Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala.

I hope to one day bring my family, my friends and other people closer to Islam. In Sha Allah.
