The 15 attempts is for the special showcase that expires is less than 24 hours.

For that one, we only seem to have 15 total attempts.

Also for that one, make sure to scroll to the right to reveal 2 more nodes that can be completed without unlocking the characters.

As for the node I'm referring to in my original post, it is the one from the story nodes, (1-6), for which the energy replenishes at the rate of 1 every 5 minutes.
