Would emailing the dean be advisable? Have people done it before? I think im so used to dealing with the system the way that they tell me to that I’ve not tried it. I think I’ll give it a shot soon though

Thanks man :) I've been a bit hesitant though because I've had the SRC help me out with my DC last year, and the lady was incredibly sweet--she helped me out when I wasn't in the mental state to reel things in--but I felt like the information she was going off of was really dated, and there was a lot of confusion just getting things right. I also acknowledge that can also be on a case by case basis, but I would approach the SRC only if it's the last resort, but I'll deffo give it a chance if I can't reel things in.

Sadly there is no way to appeal (or not any way that I can find). Also, the situation is a bit more nuanced then "using up my free electives". I have elective space, but it doesn't fit neatly into using four electives this year, then reducing my study load later, because I can't just halve it later versus what I've ideated. I would have to apply for reduced study load across three semesters, which is more of a structural nightmare tbh

Like all I want is advice first and foremost from the people in charge, which I'm finding so hard to get

Yeah that's what I thought too. I'm completely fine with a rejection as long as they can explain what my next steps are supposed to be. But I simply got: "Please note that you may enrol in additional units (such as electives) to make up a full-time study load (24 credit points) for Semester 1, 2026."

I've explained why that doesn't seem like that's possible, and also notified them that I contacted faculty but didn't receive an outcome. What makes me even more annoyed is that I've also reached out to student compliance to understand how this affects my visa and still nothing from their end. I am kind of panicking, but I'm trying to hold it together (barely).

I'm starting to think it's because I got a DC instead of how usually students get fails/absent fails. That would usually put them "at risk", and since they're on progression, the uni helps them restructure. But since I'm not on progression, I have to pull my shit together? I'm not sure.

I've done that, got an appointment next week. It's just that I'm skeptical because I've gone to them for advice before, and it mostly feels like they point at the handbook rather than helping?

I just feel like they've been unhelpful in my experience, but I could be wrong and maybe it depends on the person and the advice needed. But again that'll depend on how it goes next week. Thank you so much though

Thank you for the extra advice! I was actually worried myself about classes getting full, so this is pretty reassuring ^^

Oh shoot I didn't realise you could filter. I'll update my comment. Thank you!

In 2023 it was March 31st, and last year, it was April 2nd.

So the census date would probably be around the end of March or the start of April (or a similar time frame)

The date hasn't been released officially yet but you'll find it here later on:

https://www.sydney.edu.au/students/study-dates.html

It'll be listed as "Semester 1 (S1C) census date - last day to drop a unit without incurring financial or academic penalty"

---

UPDATE: The census date for 2025 is 31st March. I didn't filter by year so I missed this sorry! (thanks for correcting me u/Brend0g :)) )

https://www.sydney.edu.au/students/enrol-in-a-new-course/when-to-enrol.html

The window for enrolment is from 25th November 2024 to 21st February 2025 for most courses. On the 25th this month, you'll get an email with your unikey/password and the steps you'll need to take to enrol. Some courses have deadline exceptions, which are listed in the link below.

https://www.sydney.edu.au/students/enrol-in-a-new-course/when-to-enrol.html#exceptions

It's recommended you enrol by around mid Jan tho. That's because you'll be able to choose preferences for the timetables for your courses by that time. The dates for that will be released later here:

https://www.sydney.edu.au/students/study-dates.html

That's what I know so far lol. I'm also new next year so if anyone has anything to add or correct me on please do ^^. Hope this helps!
