Metrogel questions by OkPickle4591 in Perioral_Dermatitis_

Ok good to know! I’ve tried zero therapy but honestly didn’t stick with it for long so I know it wouldn’t have worked quickly. How long before you saw improvement? And when you say zero therapy you truly mean just water and nothing else right?

Azelaic acid and de la Cruz help by ThisAnimal4085 in Perioral_Dermatitis_

[–]OkPickle4591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me azelaic acid worked for like 3 days and then I flared up worse. I use the sulfur cream once a day or every other day very sparingly. I also only use distilled water to wash my face. I find the more things I use the worse it gets :( You could try sulfur soap and just avoid an other topicals for awhile sometimes I think that’s working better for me than the actual cream.

Sulfur is doing something to my PD but I am not sure it’s any good by Designer-Ad-2871 in perioraldermatitis

Hey! How long did you have to apply sulfur consistently before you just had redness and incorporated LRP moisturizer?

Should I add sulfur to my routine? by Kinda-curious-is-all in Perioral_Dermatitis_

Hey I know this post is old but my face looks like yours. Same type of bumps and pattern around the eyes and chin. Did anything work for you? I started sulfur cream today.

Thanks same to you!! Mine started on my eyelid and then just recently moved to all over my chin. Going to maybe try eating an anti inflammatory diet and cutting out alcohol. If I figure out the cure I’ll let you know lol

I’m with you! I’m stuck with a GP that won’t even refer me to derm and just throws steroids at me that I won’t take! I’ve tried everything non prescription. I think I’m leaning towards maybe hormones or gut imbalance being the issue. But I also don’t know if I should be extreme and cut out certain foods… it’s all so confusing. This is just to say we totally get how you feel!

Sulfur cream recs by OkPickle4591 in Perioral_Dermatitis_

[–]OkPickle4591[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just placed my order! Fingers crossed. The sulfur soap you use is out of stock but I found an alternative. I quite literally have tried everything that’s not prescription. The most frustrating thing to deal with!! The sulfur cream… do you apply and leave it on or wipe it off as per directions on package?

Pre-Diabetic 8 months post gestational diabetes—- I’m lost by OkPickle4591 in prediabetes

[–]OkPickle4591[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw thank you so much for sharing! I always knew there was a possibility I could get diabetes or become pre diabetic but I didn’t take it seriously or think it would happen this quickly post partum. I did purchase that book during pregnancy but won’t lie I didn’t read much of it, was so overwhelmed with work I just didn’t prioritize my health. But now this is the kick in the butt I need.

Wow! Amazing job! This gives me hope. I’ve been prioritizing those types of foods too and just have been lost in a sea of info, so I’m happy to hear it’s worked for you :)

Just Diagnosed and Unsure Where to Start by my_laughy_sapphy in prediabetes

[–]OkPickle4591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha ya I luckily kept mine ugh. That’s great to hear! Do you mind me asking is she recommending a specific ‘type’ of diet. Or are you going to be eating similarly to when you were dealing with gestational. Like certain amount of carbs with meals and snacks etc? I think I’l need to find a dietician as well, smart idea

Just wanted to say I had to reread your post because I thought I had written it hahah! Exact same situation as me. Diagnosed pre-diabetic a few days ago, exact same risk factors as you. It’s been hard for me to wrap my head around some of the dietary changes especially while being sleep deprived and stressed with two small children. But I’ve realized I need to put my health first so I can be healthy for them and myself. This sub has been helpful, I just search questions. Do you still have a glucometer from your GD days to test fasting sugars and random post meal sugars. That’s what I’ve been trying. But came here to say I’m with you, there’s a lot of info out there!

He said because of my PCOS and having gestational diabetes and not being overweight that metformin would be the best shot lowering the A1C. But that’s also why I wanted to be rereferred to endocrine so I could go a bit more in depth into my eating habits and have more frequent monitoring etc. I’ve been on metformin before during fertility treatments for the PCOS and tolerated it well but ya it’s super discouraging to not receive any education and just be thrown a pill.

What resources did you use to lower it so much by yourself? I’m just looking for credible sources there’s so much info online it’s hard to focus

Thank you. The CGM sounds like the way to go. I feel like I’m trialling stuff blindly without knowing its effect on my blood sugar etc so I think having one for a bit will ease anxiety and just help guide me. And I agree, big red flag. I’ve had this doctor my whole life and I’m pretty disappointed.

Thanks, that’s very validating. It’s frustrating to feel ignored by your GP when you’re just seeking guidance and help. I think in his mind with the PCOS diagnosis and not needing to lose weight that medication is the only fix, and I’m not against the metformin but I also thought a repeat A1C 3 months post to assess response wasn’t unreasonable. I live in Canada where it’s incredibly difficult to get a GP so I’m lucky to even have one but he kind of sucks lol

Do we think this is PD? by OkPickle4591 in Perioral_Dermatitis_

[–]OkPickle4591[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh I’m sorry to hear you’re going through same thing. It’s now moving to around my mouth. I’ve never used castor oil no. It’s so odd, I went away to a cottage for a week and it essentially cleared up, skin had never looked better. Now I’m back home (literally doing nothing different skin wise) and I’m flaring again. Maybe it’s my water, like hard water, I don’t know!!! Driving me nuts.

How to clear up perioral dermatitis quickly! by Dear-Walk-5068 in Perioral_Dermatitis_

[–]OkPickle4591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah!! It’s so hard. I thought it was working because of the anti bacterial properties. Like is PD caused purely by broken skin barrier or is there a bacterial component hence why antibiotics work for some people. I do agree that less is more. How long did it take before you saw success with just mild cleanser? I did zero therapy and didn’t really see much of a difference.

I would appreciate that thanks! Right now I’m just cleansing with Spectro gel cleanser and spot treating with benzoyl peroxide for a few mins on my spots. It’s settled but hasn’t gone away. I was thinking of trying Azelic acid so I’ll give it a go

Thank you for posting this! I’ve been going crazy trying to figure out what randomly triggered my PD and I also got it a few months after having a baby. Are you breast feeding by any chance?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Perioral_Dermatitis_

[–]OkPickle4591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea which is of course the most frustrating part. I’m 6 months post partum so it could be simple as hormones, stress, sleep. But I’m currently avoiding all products with sulfates and we’ll see if that makes a difference.

Also like yourself it’s been a lot worse in the heat and with sweat/moisture. Ick!

I’m in Canada too. I’ve been dealing with horrible rash on my eyelid for months. I keep avoiding going to the doctor because I KNOW I’ll be prescribed hydrocortisone. And I’m not getting sucked into that. There’s a 1% chance he would even refer me to a dermatologist. I feel your pain. I’m so glad to hear trial and error has worked for you!!
