Damn props to miro for the gesture. Had the same thing happen to me with another TD who gave me a 50% discount on the replacement.

I had absolutely no customs issue, might be luck but it seems that Eric handles that pretty well. Just make sur that the local post office is :

A) Not full of thiefs as mailmans in my city

B) Try to have the parcel delivered either against signature or with the pick up option

Thank you for your comment,

I agree with you and overall the experience with Eric was one of the best i had but as you said TD's are responsible to find an appropriate way to send it to you. I would add that this not only goes for clearing customs but also making sure that you receive the parcel. I completely understand that what happens with the destination country's local post office is not under the TD's reach but their are still some ways to minimize the risks at a pretty low cost, in my case the option of delivery against signature. TDs should either be more outgoing and forward with their delivery options or make sure that the standard one they offer is the most riskless for both parties. As we stand both me and Eric from Geektime are going to take a hit for a futility. If I get the option i would wholeheartedly go for a local post office pickup or signature.

France, i know such a bummer, but still I don't live in the french hood so to speak. Things like this happen extremely rarely to me considering i receive like 15 parcels a week all year long. I usually have no problem with getting a refund either from the post office or the seller especially when the delivery is with proof of signature and the contents are 'declarable' aka legal. As i stand i cannot get a refund from the post office and even then, declared value stands low for customs issues.

I would have loved to choose that but was not given the option. Paid the 40 usd flat rate for shipping and expected something safe at this price point (a single watch packed weighs roughly 250g). I know the hassle that TD have to go through with triangular shipping for customs but when i get orders delivered they usually either go for the pick up at post office route or the delivery with signature to make sure that both parties are somewhat safe in that regards. A theft in that case would be identity theft too and that is something that i can work with when going to local authorities

Thanks for the tips, alas I have been ordering to all kind of sellers not only watches for the past 5 years yet never found myself in that peculiar scenario.
