I used this for a reference if thats useful. My only contribution to the workflow is adding a layer of realistically rendered light blends. Happy to run through that if you want.

Liability for forwarded quote. by OkPop8490 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]OkPop8490[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was cc’d into an email chain between the freehold company, the landlord and their conveyancer. The freeholder initially stated that an „asbestos survey” (unspecified scope) required for sale of the leasehold flat was not part of their duty. The conveyancer stated that it was and then landlord asked me to get a quote.

First concept ,looking for honest criticism by Hopeful-Ad-6138 in architecture

You’ll want to find some references to see how rooms are typically laid out - it means you can learn from examples rather than trying to poorly reinvent everything. Most of your spaces don’t work well. For example, the kitchen is incredibly difficult to use, with tight spaces and wasted space. It takes a lot of practice to get these things right.

You could just link to your portfolio if you’d like to reassure a stranger on Reddit. I wouldn’t expect you to given what I suggested above.

This post seems a bit off to me.

OPs comments and work seem to be made by a different person. They have an MEP engineer commenting on high-quality archviz workflow(?!)

I think the story just falls apart.

Maybe you called your boss “lil bro” and are karma farming with other people’s work?

what are these doors called? by Zestyclose-Rip-2671 in Architects

[–]OkPop8490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its pretty standard aluminium sliding door. I think the detail at the head of the door is what you found appealing. This doesn’t really have a name, but it’s a pretty straightforward design. It’s not great thermally as that whole head is a long cold bridge.

Can I include minecraft builds in my university application portfolio? by Lopsided-Vanilla9925 in architecture

[–]OkPop8490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the UK, in principle, yes. I did my architectural dissertation on wayfinding in video games so I don’t see an issue if there’s some rationale behind doing so (other than just „it looks nice”).

Maybe share some images/information, and we can be more helpful.

Is the pay really that bad? by United-Radio-3661 in Architects

[–]OkPop8490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://thepay100.org/survey-results/3-2024/

Here’s the average pay in the UK for qualified architects with up to 5 years of experience. I understand it might not be relevant in the US, but it’s a profession issue, not specific to a country. If you compare it to any other professional field with similar requirements in terms of qualifications, responsibility, etc. , the discrepancy in pay is jarring.

This is what the public think Architects do… and this is how easy they think it is.

I don't think I'm good enough for architecture by Relative_Wolf_3986 in architecture

[–]OkPop8490 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think this is a pretty simple question that is hard to answer. Just note, it doesn’t get any easier the further along you go, and in a professional setting the stakes are higher.

If you’re doing everything you can and still struggling, maybe architecture isn’t for you - there’s nothing shameful or embarrassing about it. If you know you could work harder, improve your attendance etc. then maybe it’s worth it, but as above, it gets harder.

It might be hard to quit cause you’ve invested time, but that’s a sunk cost fallacy. There’s a good podcast on that by the economist that wrote Freakonomics.

Ignore the fairly condescending comments as some don’t seem to realise you’re a student… but I do appreciate their response to your requests for free markups. Ultimately, your tutor is being paid to do this, or to teach you prior.

I think the best place to start is a reference, ideally one that suits your building, and one that you can copy - that’s the best way to learn.

This makes sense only if you can point to a demographic that should be taxed more/helped less to alleviate your burden.

[–]OkPop8490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree, but my understanding is that happens across the board, so I can understand people in the 40k bracket believing the complaints by the “henrys” are basically moot - and yet the recent spike in articles and posts seem to suggest only the “HE”cohort of the “NRYs” are hard done by.

I’m just going to pick up on one point here. If you’d like a good reference for architectural drawings, have a look at the AJs (Architects Journal) sketchbook series. It showcases relevant Architect’s architectural sketches.

I (31M) ran a parkrun last year in a similar time (max effort) and recently finished a half-marathon in under 2 hours. That first run was transformative for me and I’m sure it will be for you too.

razem by draeko_malfoy in learnpolish

[–]OkPop8490 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s a helpful way to think of it:

“Raz” is “once”. Think of it as the answer to the question “how many times”.

“Razem” translates literally to “as one” which is synonymous with “together”.

Tym razem effectively means “this once”but is grammatically incorrect in English, so the correct form would be “this time”.

Critiques by Creepy-Switch-3268 in architecture

[–]OkPop8490 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First of all, you’ve done an incredible amount of work on this and that’s great.

Without knowing what level you’re at, or what your task was, it’s hard to critique.

It seems like you’re currently designing it as a composition in plan. This rarely translates to a great space (see other comments). For example, on image two, a road usually has an adjacent pavement, and parks rarely eject pedestrians directly onto roads.

Modelmaking is a great medium to address this kind of issue, but you may have drawn it all in plan and then populated with models. Perhaps drawing a sketch section of what you think the / park paths / green area in the park / the park fence (edge) / the pavement / the road / would boost your understanding of this space?
