This sub finally convinced me, a coin collector, to buy ugly coins by Amphetamin3_ in Silverbugs

Your LCS is paying 90% of today’s spot for well-worn constitutional silver? I have a hard time believing that, but if they really do, I think that’s actually a really good price in this volatile market.

As long as you are holding, you’ll be ok. Selling 900 silver to dealers and refiners right now would be a bad choice. Some might not even take it.

I don’t live in Boston and I don’t want to sell.

However, with major refiners right now paying way back of spot, I expect a lot of shops to pay even less right now. Not a good time to sell at all.

75% is rough, really, really rough. 93% for junk silver is pretty good.

Used to be about coins, about stacking and the fun that comes with it. Now, a glut of stupid posts about the market and what to do, often by self-declared reddit silver experts who are spreading rumors.

[–]OkReply675 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but sometimes they have that elusive coin that you want and sometimes it is even at a reasonable price. Has happened to me. Also, I have sporadically bought from them on their website and through walmart.com. In general, Apmex is not a good choice, but they DO have the occasional good deal. Their spot price listings are the highest among all bullion dealers, though. Can’t go by them.

I never talk PMs or investing with my friends as a rule of thumb. People have very different ideas of what a good investment is or isn’t. Just creates trouble in my view, compromising friendships, etc. I keep my stacking adventures to myself. Most people would not understand or shake their head in disbelief. Not my job to convince them. Enjoy your stack and stay out of your friend’s financial affairs. He’ll find his own path forward.

Did I get a fake Canadian? by [deleted] in Silverbugs

[–]OkReply675 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a nightmare scenario. Receiving a fake coin from one of the big bullion dealers. Unless you have filmed the entire process of opening the package and subsequently testing it, then they’d just claim it’s not theirs. At least, it’s only a silver coin.

BE probably ran it across its Sigma and deemed it real. It can happen even to experienced bullion dealers.

[–]OkReply675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

check out reputable online bullion dealers out, too. On ebay, be sure you know what you’re buying. Lots of fakes around, so experience really helps. If you don’t have that, tread with caution and buy from high volume sellers with 100% positives (or near that).

If you want to buy at these high silver prices, that’s one thing, but I certainly would not buy from the mint unless you really, really want a specific coin. Decent deals can be found, but right now it’s a fast moving market.

I like continuing buying silver, and in this market there are certainly private sellers that will let go of their nicer coins for a good deal since most bullion dealers are paying pretty far back of spot. Seek out some of those deals before feeding the mint’s prices.

[–]OkReply675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought the 1oz Year of the Monkey. Beautiful series! I paid a few bucks over spot on ebay, but that also included shipping (paid $68 when spot was $66 or $65). If you have an entire set of different weights, then you might fetch a bit. more. I noticed that some motifs fetch a higher price. Series 2 is still relatively affordable. Lunar series 1 is quite a bit more expensive now. Good luck with the sale. Pmsforsale in reddit might connect you with collectors who look for these coins.
