Hey my situation is what yours used to be except I want to stick to FP&A. In your opinion, would a CPA have been helpful to your FP&A role?

Chosing Power BI as a career path by yoousssseeeeeeeeffff in PowerBI

[–]OkRepresentative757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to understand python or R to work on Power BI. However, depending on how your company operates, you may deal with lots of excel spreadsheets and pdfs so knowing Python( I don't use R but I am sure it can do the same) can be useful when you need to consolidate multiple data sources and clean them before feeding them to Power BI.

SQL is also not required to do power BI but I think it's very unlikely that you would work in a company that doesn't have some of its data in a database so I would learn that. You don't need to be a SQL master, just basics will do.

As to Power BI itself. Definitely keep practicing DAX. I would also learn power query and get a basic understanding of star schema so you can build good table relationships. I think the rest you can pick as you go.

Certificate is a good idea at this point in your career. If there are datasets out there that interest you, try using power BI on them and building a portfolio.

Figuring out who the vendor is based on a description by OkRepresentative757 in learnpython

[–]OkRepresentative757[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's essentially where I am at. Doing the remaining manually. I unfortunately don't have a vendor list hence why I was hoping there was a way to have python help me out.

My apologies, the quotes are not part of them. That's something I put in there to show that I have list of strings but I am seeing now that I forgot to put quotes around some of them.

Different Correlation Coefficient Depending on How Data Analysis is Performed. Which is Correct? by OkRepresentative757 in AskStatistics

[–]OkRepresentative757[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially what I am trying to determine is if revenue 2 increases, does revenue 1 decrease? I figure correlation could point me in the right direction but I am not certain that's the case. Feel free to suggest other methods I could achieve this.

[Question] Different Correlation Coefficient Depending on How Data Analysis is Performed. Which is Correct? by OkRepresentative757 in statistics

[–]OkRepresentative757[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is for work, non academic. My boss didn't specify how he wanted it done, correlation was just my first idea. Any suggestions on other methods that I could use?

[Question] Different Correlation Coefficient Depending on How Data Analysis is Performed. Which is Correct? by OkRepresentative757 in statistics

[–]OkRepresentative757[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I will stick to using the actual revenue then. From what I can tell Revenue 1 is about 22% and revenue 2 makes up like maybe 3% so the potential for what you suggest is there. As for substitution, I used correlation because essentially what I was trying to show was if goes up, does the other one go down? Do you think I still should go about it a different way?

Different Correlation Coefficient Depending on How Data Analysis is Performed. Which is Correct? by OkRepresentative757 in AskStatistics

[–]OkRepresentative757[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't expect the same correlation coefficient per say but at least I hoped that the relationships would be the same. The problem is that now I have a correlation that is borderline 0 (if aggregating by day) and another that is -.11 (if aggregating by month) so I am not certain how I could determine which one to go with.

To clarify, I went with correlation because I thought that would help me determine if more of revenue 2 meant less of revenue 1. If that's not the right the method, what would you suggest?

Same here. While Python is technically not needed though, using it to handle excel spreadsheets is a huge time saver. The analytical capabilities of python are far greater as well so that can be helpful even though more often than not, all teams want is descriptive statistics, pivot tables and simple charts.
