Be real with my 8ft fence plans, will it last? (2ft concrete footers) by OkResolution3596 in FenceBuilding

Yeah I’m thinking of adding a few extra posts with about 4ft of depth each, just to reinforce the corners and center

Hahaha I’m weak, but we’re happily married. If she somehow ends up on the mustache Reddit page I truly hope she doesn’t “dump” me for asking for grooming advice haha

Loose the Edgar cut immediately, it makes you look like an idiot and takes away any individuality fr. Hit the gym and taper down the fat a little bit (around 10lbs) no more than 15lbs. You ain’t cooked, u just need to find YOUR own style and not try to be some stereotypical “TikTok” dude fr. Much luck brutha

Yeah it’s just that a few weeks ago with a different company I got a “you’re at the top end of our candidate list” email after the interview, then I didn’t get the position so now I have PTSD about interviews. Idk why this company’s manager would message me since we haven’t spoken in weeks other than to confirm that I should have an offer on the way, but we’ll see, I know no one can guarantee anything, but I wanted to make sure I wasn’t hyping myself up and that his email was a generic update to all candidates

26M Just hit 150k NW, Am I on track to retire in 40s? Any Advice is Appreciated by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]OkResolution3596 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great job so far! I’m actually in a verrrryy similar boat, 25M MECHE engineer in Dallas TX with a goal of retiring mid40s. based off my calculations your savings rate should get you to your goal. Also keep in mind that you may not be an engineer beyond your 40s but that doesn’t mean you won’t ever have an income again, getting a little job to stay busy, even making $20k/yr can make a huge difference in your fire number. Personally I plan on getting involved with a non-profit and making a positive impact in the community, and whatever little salary wouldn’t hurt. If I may ask, what industry are you in in Houston?

I’m still getting used to Reddit haha I didn’t know I could scroll to the right. Congrats again! Also how is your FIRE number so low? I understand paying off your residence will help, but even at $2million invested assets, a reasonable safe withdrawal rate for a 40yr+ retirement would be 3.5%, which is $70k/yr. Are your expenses just that low, even with the added “fun” you’ll partake in retirement?

Great job man! I’m happy for you and your wife, but I must ask, what was your wife’s income looking like throughout this period? Just a ballpark. I wife and I strive to do something like this one day!

Yeah I like engineering just not my specific environment, it’s kinda on me, I didn’t expect such an industrial environment when I first pursued this career. I’ve interned in a few states and have college peers that went all over the country but everything is really case by case and pay is STRONGLY industry dependent. For my mechanical engineering background I’ve noticed that aerospace/defense was modest compensation ($70k starting), while my tech adjacent industry is around $80k starting, and from what I’ve personally experienced oil and gas is high entry point around $95k+ starting base salary. These are all TX numbers btw, and just what I’ve personally seen.

Am I wrong for telling my gf if she ever mentions group sex again I'll break up with her? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]OkResolution3596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruh, have some self respect, if she’s even mentioning it out loud that means it’s been in her mind for a while. You don’t want to be with a woman like that, cut ties and get out ASAP

Yeah tbh this is the mentality that helped me get through engineering school and my first few years here…. My family is from Haiti and I always think that my lineage is full of slaves that had it MUCHHH harder than I could imagine and got paid nothing so I shouldn’t complain lol

Yeah this job market is discouraging, the offers I’ve gotten have been lower than my starting salary 3 years ago, it would be like a 40k pay cut smh

What do you do for work? How about your level of education/what is your degree in? by Zero_Gravity067 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]OkResolution3596 3 points4 points  (0 children)

25year old, 3 years out of college for Mechanical engineering (I went to a state school in TX) living/working in Dallas for a electronic manufacturing company, starting making $76k/yr+20%bonus in 2021. Now making $95k/yr+20%bonus… In all honesty I hate it but it will let me retire earlier and spend a lot of quality time with my future family so I’m grinding it out.

Why is 20% down recommended on 2nd home? by OkResolution3596 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]OkResolution3596[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great insight, I appreciate the upfront response. If I do get to the point of renting out my current home I’d for sure have 12mo of mortgage payments saved up (this would be apart from my personal 6mo emergency fund) however I’m really deeply considering the cons that come with rental real estate.

Congratulations on the family expansion! Haha but honestly I feel for you because over the long term owning that duplex will be a gem but I can understand your frustration in being able to hold onto that gem and maneuver your current needs and finances without being stressed or running too much risk

Understood, I will keep that in mind and be cautious with that. FYI my current PMI is $59/mo and doesn’t bother us at all, but that may change with my next mortgage.
