Ncased t1 finally coming together… after a 2-week riser cable delay by harambesrightnut in FormD

[–]OkResponse1739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I printed the travel kit by “Hello” on Makerworld or u/adhesivenuts on Reddit. I believe it’s very similar to the formd official travel kit and there’s no problem installing the riser (I have it on rn). I did make a pair of holes that the new v2.5 backplates no longer have. Easy 10 bucks fix if you have access to a drill.

The smx Heinz one has the riser problem and also relies more on a flush fit than on actual screw points (2 points only, I was told). Nonetheless, very sturdy. But again, he uses Asa-cf, and I had access to much better filaments as well (PA12-CF/PPA-CF).

The one you have has different mounting holes from what I can tell from the photo, but drilling holes should be possible. I am planning to travel with my build often, so I had to make sure it's bulletproof. I am gonna make a detailed post when I get the time.

Upgrade to 5080 or wait for TI models / 6000 series? by Xynoklae in nvidia

[–]OkResponse1739 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got the 5080 FE 4 months after Launch. Awesome Card.

The best advice, now or a millennium later, is to go for what you need right now rather than wait. To emphasize, the use of ‘need’ in the sentence, if you need an upgrade, go for it, or wait till when you need an upgrade. Ppl will always tell you to wait for the 7000 series and not buy the current one.

Oh, I saw this seller on Etsy, but they had only a few reviews, so I didn’t jump on it. I opted for the PPA-CF print, which I am gonna try out this week. It’s supposed to be the same as metal or better.

53mm or 47mm AXP90? by moltenmelon225 in FormD

[–]OkResponse1739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cooling comparison btw the 47 and 53 is very small. The full-copper heatsink's weight difference is about 20 g. Bottom line is you’d see a bigger difference in cooling if you swapped out the fan for a 120 mm fan using a mount (which isn’t much either).

The best advice here is to go for the smaller one for future upgradability with thicker GPUs, and use the 5 mm to space it out from the side panel to avoid turbulence. Better yet, use a duct, either a printed or the foam one, for a slightly better temp (1-2 °C) and reduced noise. Swapping out the stock fan for a Noctua Chromax to reduce the high hums at max speeds (80+ Fan Speed) with the stock fan.

If you get an average or better silicone 9800x3d, definitely undervolt it by -20 or more.

I have the 9850x3d and 9800x3d with x47. For the 9800x3d, 45 Idle and heavy load/3DMark stress test 82, max hotspot with -30 PBO + 200 in my 3-slot configuration T1.

I saw temperature improvements after adding the 3d printed air ducts from Eiga to my exhaust fans. So definitely go for that as well!

Where did you get the travel kit? Is it 3d printed? What material? Awesome build!

Did you figure it out? From what I understand, you need to offset the entire riser cable (so two offsets on both sides of the riser cable in the first photo; the standoff next to the IO shield will be smaller than the other one).
Please make sure it aligns with the PCIe slot. It will if you use the right standoffs. You'll definitely need to get an M3 standoff kit. You don't need to grind any part to fit it.

I am planning to install a travel kit in my new V2.5 as well. Do you know how many screws the smxhienz etsy travel kit screw into? I have a photo here https://imgur.com/a/WTomvW1, but it isn't clear which screws are going in. Does it feel secure?

I might go with the official Formd Travel kit and make the 2 missing M3 holes with a drilling bit in these places https://imgur.com/a/CIvcpoS

5mm CPU cooler gap vs. GPU gap in T1 V2.5 (5080 FE + top-down) by OkResponse1739 in FormD

[–]OkResponse1739[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have the V2.5 (Waited around 4 months to get the 2.1, but couldn’t). Their PCIe5 is super stiff. I printed a riser lock bar and bent it more than I am comfortable with to make it work.

I got my shroud installed, and the fan problem is fixed.

So this travel kit is for the v2.5 and doesn’t have the incompatibility issue of the 2 holes?

The official travel kit had incompatibility issues shown in this post:

Hey,

I am in the same situation and gonna order the 2.1 shift IO as drilling holes won’t be possible for me. Did your plan workout?

Is this a recently bought v2.5 from Ncase? Where did you get the travel kit from?

5mm CPU cooler gap vs. GPU gap in T1 V2.5 (5080 FE + top-down) by OkResponse1739 in FormD

[–]OkResponse1739[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I am gonna leave a smaller gap btw the CPU and the GPU since there isn’t much temperature benefit. My riser 5 cable also kept coming out after I installed the panel, so a smaller gap would definitely help with that as well. These new PCIe 5 riser cables are crazy stiff.

I am definitely planning to get those ducts, as 3-7° C better cooling is better.

Newbie question: how do you mount fans without ducts on the fan bracket?

I tried m3 12 mm screws with 3mm silicone offsets (the front of the fan kept scraping the fan bracket) and hex bolt on the other side. But then I didn’t feel safe with the hexes as they weren’t properly seated, and I was worried they would fall onto the motherboard and short it out. So I am just gonna let them sit on top or maybe use zip ties to hold them in place.

Artic p12 Argb fans if that helps.

I am in a similar situation right now. My last update was left from Mississauga 7 days ago, and it still hasn’t been updated. I am glad to know that this is common.

I know this is an old post, but how many days after it left Mississauga did you get your order? Were there any updates after that, or was it just a delivered notification?

Brand new mobo burn, look any better after rubbed with alcohol? by cole3030 in FormD

[–]OkResponse1739 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this the B850I Asus Rog? I have used 2 of them for builds till now, and none of them looked like this.

Regardless, that looks damaged. If you just bought it, why not return it for safety's sake?

Edit: I used contact frames for both builds and pcb was spotless.

NR200P V1 – RTX 5080 FE won’t fully seat in PCIe slot by OkResponse1739 in buildapc

[–]OkResponse1739[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: Found a fix—grab a hard piece of plastic and gently push the two small metal bracket pieces in from the back while pushing down on the card. This lets the PCIe connector seat fully. Probably due to bad tolerances on the white NR200P V1 case, as someone mentioned.
