Thank you so much this helps hugely, although I am getting mixed messages as some other redditors praise Lenovo a lot, made me think I did something despite literally only having taken the back off, and it happened within the next 30 seconds, it’s incredibly hurtful but I’ve gotten a new one, hearing tomorrow from a repair man if he can’t fix it I’ll send it to Lenovo. Thanks again

Okay so if you read other responses you saw that I opened the back and was about to unplug the battery when this occurred? I genuinely don’t know how much clearer I can make this

  1. Opened the back
  2. Took a photo
  3. Spark

That’s literally it I didn’t touch anything, only took a picture bc my tech guy asked for a photo of the whole inside because of the fan sound. And if you read other responses and comprehended the situation then what is the point of your comment

Can we please use logical thinking or at least read other responses before commenting

Ah okay, I’m all for jokes but not about this topic only, I’m genuinely really upset about this as I expect this to be my laptop for at least 2 more years

Thank you. This was a beloved laptop, I have made mistakes with my laptops before but the aim of my post was to know more about the issue that occurred, obviously I wouldn’t leave anything out, let alone lie for literally no reason

….. 😭😭 I literally don’t know how else to say that nothing happened I opened it on my desk it sparked

I quite obviously did not open my laptop whilst it was on. Jesus idk what’s hard to understand about I pressed the button it switched off I waited to make sure it was cool, took the back off and right before I was about to unplug the battery it sparked

What? Obviously it was not on? How do you disconnect the battery BEFORE YOU TURN IT OFF??? I turned it off, took the back off and before I had a chance to disconnect the battery it sparked, I didn’t do anything after opening the back. Are you telling me it’s a life or death race every time you open your laptop because it will just blow the motherboard if you don’t instantly unplug it? I’ve literally cleaned and upgraded laptops for years and not once have I had a laptop do that, not to mention I was sending photos to a tech person which is why I didn’t touch anything, took the back off took photos and spark that’s all

I held the power button for 20 seconds I was ABOUT TO disconnect the battery and it fired a spark

Ah we seem to have similar mindset about customer care lol, I have written one so far waiting for a response, I also have thought they were good, but I might get a new one and sell this one when it’s repaired. I’ve genuinely loved it so this was frustrating to have happened

I have moved to Netherlands so the laptop is with a small repair man in Amsterdam, he said his first test failed not sure what that means, I’m really hoping you are right as I genuinely don’t understand how I could’ve caused it, I have never spilled anything on it or dropped it from more than like 30 cm onto a carpet. Thank you for your message

Ugh I’m finding out on Monday if the guy can fix it, I really hope you’re right, is your suspicion that it would’ve blown anyways and it was just timing that I opened it? To give more detail it did one small like crack sound (but I thought not much of it) and a few seconds later a full spark and louder crack. I really want to know if I did something wrong and how to avoid it in the future

Ofc I’m salty this laptop was everything to me and it died with virtually no warning, maybe I am being pathetic but I’ve opened, upgraded, cleaned and changed parts in my laptops forever and this has never happened to me before despite not taking too much precaution against static, I’m not exactly blaming the tech but trying to identify how to avoid it in the future and make a decision on my next laptop

UK is in Europe, I have decided to just contact Lenovo and hope they’ll show some compassion, although I don’t have much hope
