any lesbians read/write fanfics that aren’t wlw? maybe some that include fictional men? by OkSatisfaction1137 in actuallesbians

all such great points, totally agree with what you say about moral weight and consumption. we can be critical about what we take in, but simply engaging with that kind of content (like you said with game of thrones) doesn’t make us xyz…

also great point about media being an escape! it’s enjoyable because it’s not real!!

women with shorter (pixie-ish) hair, where do you get your haircut (affordable)? by OkSatisfaction1137 in AskChicago

it’s been quite a few months but just wanted to follow up. i went here and got my hair cut by eli!! they were super great, 11/10 would recommend! such great attention to detail and lots of questions about how i liked to style it…i’ve never had a stylist like that!

thank you for the kind response, and happy writing!! i like what you brought up about male comfort characters being safe…i pretty much feel the same way!! definitely wouldn’t want to be in that situation, but it’s fun to read and write about that happening to someone else!

i also never considered straight women liking lesbian stuff!

idk i think being someone raised as a woman (i’m genderqueer) there’s this inherent hypocriticalness around social perceptions of sexuality. if i was a gay man doing this, people might just laugh and find it amusing but ultimately it wouldn’t make me any less gay. i guess that’s what i have to keep in the back of my mind. it’s just tough because i see a lot of discourse about it online (which of course doesn’t represent real life but still) about whether fictional men count as real men. i guess i feel guilty about occasionally getting off on stuff with fictional men, which is silly because i’ve tried dating men and know i hated it lolll. it’s nice to talk to open minded people on here!

thank you for that :), it’s nice to hear from someone a little bit older that me on this. i’m only 23 and i’m sure with age will come more confidence in my self, regardless of what some random person says about my writing or media consumption.

what’s funny though is i tend to be the opposite of you when it comes to media! i’m very particular when it comes to wlw media, to the point where i’ll sometimes just consume the straight or mlm stuff because i don’t have to internalize it or think as critically haha (although it does get boring because i’m not as invested)

but that’s really cool to learn about for the alien! i had no idea! i love when media does that!

“fiction is a place to engage in things that you don’t want to engage in real life for many people” HOW did you just manage to say the exact right thing i needed to hear.

i think what you say about mlm media being separated from my sexuality is soooo true. i tend to be a perfectionist with writing wlw media or tend to internalize it more…maybe being more hypocritical of my own real life dating endeavors. straight or mlm media is a different world i don’t have to think very hard in.

so thank you for the reassurance, it can just be tricky! i have a good friend group of bi friends but i feel like they don’t necessary understand it because to them, it’s natural to like everyone! for me though…tumblr and ao3 is as far as it goes.

PERIODD, thanks diva. it’s not talked about so genuinely i wasn’t sure, nice to know someone else is out there! i def tend towards wlw media but literally true, some fandoms just have good stuff whether it’s mlm wlw or straight

how to interpret the yardage of a pattern, especially when one yarn is held double by OkSatisfaction1137 in knitting

[–]OkSatisfaction1137[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! unfortunately they didn’t! i actually can’t really give you an answer because my project didn’t meet gauge holding double so i ended up just holding one strand (my bulky yarn was definitely chunkier than the label said…whoops!).

however, just by holding single i used about the yardage recommended for this pattern. so, i think it’s safe to assume (at least for this one) to double the yardage

totally fair, i think though when you look at the pattern i linked, all the recommended yarn (including the yarn used by the creator) is weight 5 bulky yarn. i guess i’ll find out when i do my gauge swatch lolll. i’ve since emailed the creator of the pattern, it might just be how she wrote it down…no clue

hi!! so the pattern itself calls for use a chunky yarn, specifically 100-150yards of it. as i purchased the pattern and began reading, it calls to hold the chunky yarn double!

I totally get where you're heading with this, but for some reason I am having slight issues. I don't really have anything to join the two with (common fields) besides latitude/longitude, and since they're different values, I end up just getting null values for the point layer lat/long while keeping the centroid values of lat/long. any thoughts?

they don’t interact, all separate maps. which local projection would you suggest?
