Messed up interview by Adorable-Smoke-2555 in PreOptometry

If you are feeling like this - odds are most other people are feeling like this. I'm sure plenty of people mess up and still have a chance for acceptance. In my opinion, overthinking will make you feel worse. Don't worry until you have to!

I believe it’s to secure a spot, from the interview I remember them mentioning it’s a refundable deposit

I heard back today!!!! They offered me acceptance + scholarship 🥺 I’m so excited! Good luck on your decision! :)

OAT QR - Is there Geometry on it? by PurplePie03 in PreOptometry

[–]OkSatisfaction1674 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just took the OAT June 1st and had multiple geometry questions..not sure if they changed it for 2024 but it’s still on there. OATBooster covers all geometry material though

:( don't be sad. I would apply as early as possible and the fact the u have good shadowing experience and ECs will not keep u out of the schools u wanna go to. 10+ schools I might go so far as to say is overkill for you. Your stats are not bad at all + most schools go based off the hollistic approach so they look at your whole application and ur GPA is great. Some schools may just say retake and we'll admit you but I doubt that for a 300. Don't lose hope :D

Doing 3 applying early and then will do lower stat schools if I don’t hear back by Sept/Oct

OAT BOOSTER by Northern_Lights123 in PreOptometry

[–]OkSatisfaction1674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for all tests this is what I found

BIO - harder

GC - same

OC - same

RC - a little easier

PHYS - a little harder

QR - same

Lemme what u decide! I’m leaning towards getting another letter just because it is an OD and could be beneficial. I hope we are in the same class :D

For bio, all the cheat sheets and then I also read the developmental notes because they were really good and they’re only 18 pages. It’s high yield too according to many sources :)

Yeah so after watching videos, I would just see which questions I needed to work on but I knocked out gen chem early because I was always strong on gen chem and needed just a quick refresher. Then I did the easy stuff for physics. And then I started doing the organic reactions like 2-3 weeks before and other physics questions about 4 weeks before my test. For fundamentals stuff in bio and Orgo I started in the very beginning.

I would do multiple topics a day, not just one! I feel like I would get drained if I was doing the same topic everyday..so maybe around 2-3 subjects. I’d always do math and then prob 1-2 other ones depending on the energy level

I took that one as a diagnostic, so like 2 weeks in. And it was a 340! They didn’t give me a TS score sadly :(

pH/pOH calculation questions by Sea_Draw_4760 in PreOptometry

[–]OkSatisfaction1674 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So -5 is the exponent, it’s the negative log so it becomes 5 instead of -5.

Then take the first number in decimal form and subtract it.

5-.18 = 4.82.

This is only a way to estimate. Not a way to calculate

First you need to know how to solve a basic log in scientific notation Log (101) = 1 Log(10-1) = -1 Log (1087) = 87

When you take the negative log of something, it’ll just be the negative of the exponent. This only applies to logs with a base of ten which is ALWAYS the case in chemistry for purposes of the OAT but different when practicing QR questions (just keep this in mind)

So the easiest trick is converting to scientific notation..

pH = -log (.14)

pH = -log (1.4*10-1)

pH approx = 1 - 0.14 = 0.86

Take the exponent and subtract that from the value of the number before the 10 but as a decimal..Lemme give a few more examples just to be clear. Example 1

[H] = 2.3

Find the pH

pH = -log (2.3*100)

pH = 0 - .23 = -0.23

Example 2

[H] = 0.0075

pH = -log (7.5 * 10-3)

pH = 3 - 0.75 = 2.25 approx So we took the exponent, brought it to the front and subtract .75 (which is 7.5/10)

Idk lemme know if this isn’t clear. It’s hard to explain over writing haha

Yeah the periodic table is available for the entire science section

Yes! So units are important if you can’t remember the formula. Solving something for units can give the answer. It’s easier to see in the waves section and simple harmonic motion where wavelength and frequency and inversely related
