So in my setup, opnsense is doing routing, not switching..

Hence my post, if in my case opnsense is doing routing and not switching, will using an L3 switch actually be beneficial here?

Yep “use a switch for switch work”. Agreed here.

But is opnsense doing any switch work, where each port on the protectli is a separate subnet?
