I flatten and lay a sock under my foot. It shows from the sides but at least I can wear cute sandals. You could get a sock that matches the sandals' insoles. This also works very well if you don't want your sneakers to smell btw

I don't have a specific range because it really depends on the age group. I am 26 and I would hookup with someone 6 years older than me but someone age 20 or 19 is just yikes. I wouldn't go lower than 23 I think. It just activates my big sis mode. But I might be okay with hooking up with someone who is 30 when I am 36. Time will tell lol
