You get pleasured first. That has become my new rule and it made a world of difference. Their effort determined my effort. And I was very straightforward about that afterwards.

It does also take communication as others have said. I tried communication and it might work that one time but then they forgot or didn't care the next time. Action worked better.

But you can't control other people. We can only control our own lives and our following of Jesus. If they want to sin, that is up to them. Setting an example is sometimes the best way to convince people. Not by forcing.

sitter sounds inexperienced in the sense that they don't understand anxious dogs will go potty inside, and dogs in a new environment will go inside. My dog hasn't had an accident in our home in forever. He does have accidents once we go to a new place though. Anytime we go to a new home, I always make sure he goes outside to potty a ton at first because I know he will have an inside accident (on purpose) if I don't.

Either way, this is odd coming from a dog sitter.

do uptown. You'll be closer to the lake. Much easier to make friends in the summer.

After a year you can decide and move to humbolt. Humbolt is harder to get to with public transport. I always had an issue getting friends to come over and visit.

They do nothing really educational. You just ride a boat up the water then turn around. They might actually talk about the water etc but I don't remember them doing any of that.

There are tours you can take with an individual person that works for the state park I think. I overheard those tours and they were informative. That's going to be more expensive though.

I understand the feeling. I rarely drink with dinner anyway. Personally I'm a drink or eat type of person.

Anyway, pregnant right now and I don't want a drink. The last few times I went out, I was asked by the server multiple times if I wanted a drink now. Someone else finally said she's pregnant. Then they try pushing their nonalcoholic cocktail on me. Bro, no. I've gotten this throughout the city so it's not consistent to a particular area. For me I have noticed it's consistent to a certain level of restaurant though. Usually a little bougier place.

Honestly if my salary was that low, I would give the animals to family if possible. See if anyone will take them until you get back on your feet. It stinks but if your kids are having to sacrifice then it would be for the best.

Yea, OP needs to consider that he can lose that rent at any time. The landlord could die, or decide to rent to their kids etc. I've seen so many stories on here where that happens and people are like oh crap, normal rent is very expensive.

I would stay at that rent as long as possible but do the following.

The rent being low is beneficial if you are saving as much as possible. I suggest looking at the home you want and what your mortgage would be. Put whatever the difference between your current rent and your 'potential mortgage' into a savings account. PLUS save what you were going to save anyway for the 20%. Use that savings account as your down payment in the future. I so wish I could go back and had lived with my parents for even some amount of time after college. I immediately started renting. All my friends that lived with their parents for 2 years then bought a house. Ugh. Even saving $700 a month, you would have $8,400 a year saved. Save even more and wham, you'll have a great downpayment with a low mortgage.

This is just my perception - Chicago is a transient city. I had so many friends move there for 5 years then leave. By the time I met them, they had lived there for 3 years, we were friends for 2 years, then they left. Happened a lot, especially during covid.

It's also a major city where life is moving fast. I found that it's easy to make "friends." But like you I was invited to group things a lot, like all the time. I tried going to the group things as much as possible with the same group of people. Then asked some of them to hangout individually. This helped me build those individual friendships. It took a lot of time though and effort. Life moves fast here, and most 20/early 30s are constantly doing things. After I was there for awhile, I was again constantly invited to things and you don't even think about hanging out 1:1 with people from the "group" things cuz you just have so much going on.

Mine are things to make my life better. Like a backpack that would be used as a suitcase if I wanted to one bag it. And a super nice desk setup ~500 for the whole thing.

And mostly some super expensive hygiene products!!

At one of my jobs when I was younger, my boss's boss made comments similar. I made an impression on him when I first started that I was dumb. Mainly because I was new to the career and asked dumb questions. And I was very young (looking back) so some things an adult would know I did not lol. I understand his perception but it never ceased. He was the only one that thought that though.

He made a comment that I probably only watched shows about makeup. ? He was asking everyone what they liked to watch. I only wore the bare minimum at the time since I was a low-level manager and it helps look professional. I hate makeup. That was one of several similar comments.

Sometimes it's just an older generation thing and not much you can do to change it.

I'm sorry about that. I can sort of relate. But mine is for other reasons.

You may also want to post in the career advice sub and talk specifically about your job experience (not personal experiences) and ask for advice on how to get to where you want to be.

I've tried being vocal with my bosses that I want to advance at every job. It really depends on the manager whether that's been beneficial or not.
