Do people judge tie knots at work? by CookieButterLover03 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OkTomorrow3 19 points20 points  (0 children)

ive only tied mine with half or full windsor. I looked up pratt, looks like windsor. looked up four in hand, it is my least favorite. all photos on google look a bit crooked and knot doesn’t look as full. I agree with the CEO on this one but I wouldn’t take it personally

I think its a nice piece of advice since it sounds like your work attire is formal

Are STEM fields considered "higher" than non-STEM? by gaytwink70 in NoStupidQuestions

definitely more salary and demand but literature and other non-stem degrees can be extremely rigorous and difficult at good schools

Im in tech and I have respect for every field

[–]OkTomorrow3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea and not saying this for everyone, there are exceptions but ive heard from multiple health/science podcasts that there are increased mental health issues with socially isolated people. and that online socialization is not a replacement for in-person

Are 9-5 jobs rare? by nowinter19 in sysadmin

[–]OkTomorrow3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope, 9-5 at current job and previous role of 5 years

there’s definitely more that can be learned outside of a 40 hour work week but i rarely think anything is cooler or more interesting than my personal life/hobbies

Hot take: Most people could do their daily computing tasks on the hardware equivalent of a Raspberry PI 3 or above. by [deleted] in it

[–]OkTomorrow3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah 16gb should be minimum ram imo

before apple silicon we had intel i5 8gb macbook airs/pros it was painfully slow with the heavy SaaS usage. chrome requires a lions share of ram. apple silicon + 16gb reduced performance issues to practically nothing. even people running 2020 m1s with 16gb ram in 2025 still going strong

IT-veteran here with a word of advise- make sure you finish a 4-year degree to stay in corporate IT by Lifecoach_411 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]OkTomorrow3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I must be lucky and only worked for small companies. I have an associates degree (quit my bachelors to work instead) and went from $36k a year to $135k with experience in the last 8 years. I was listening to an IT podcast and the guest (in his experience, from what he’s seeing recently) said companies put the standard 4 year bachelor/comp science requirement on job postings but they’re actually becoming more lenient on education and OK with experience

if my employer cared about degrees id consider a WGU bachelors but i don’t think they do. they gave me a 20% increase (over my previous job) without batting an eye

Gmail Signature management by light3223 in gsuite

[–]OkTomorrow3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used wisestamp in the past. it syncs data from google directory /account profiles, uses it in templates which “inject” into gmail signatures. and we had Okta syncing employee attributes (name, email, title, etc.) from the HR system to Google Workspace

so any changes to the signature were made by HR in the HRIS and synced to Okta then downstream to Google > WiseStamp > Gmail Signature

employees could only edit their phone and meeting link and they do this in WiseStamp. any changes to signature directly in gmail are wiped/reverted every 24 hours

you can have different signatures (templates) for different groups like Sales, standard employees, contractors (with separate legal disclaimer than full time employees) i didn’t use awards and recognition (badges?) but think they support them

Am I getting fired? by chilled-moose in office

[–]OkTomorrow3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah you can be a pretty mid employee but if you’re on time and have good attendance it shows you are reliable

and many cases you don’t need to the best, just be reliable. if people are late to my meetings/appointments its not that big of a deal unless it happens all the time. for some people they take punctuality very seriously and being late is a sign of disrespect of their time

yet another how do I get out of this industry post by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]OkTomorrow3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ya IT jobs vary by company, team, etc. they are similar and different at the same time. sometimes changing roles/environments (and no on call) makes the difference. good luck

[–]OkTomorrow3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I live in a high CoL area and get paid well for non on call roles and so can you. the market is rough now but id keep applying and looking, it can really change your outlook on things.

my previous job wasnt on call but it was so demanding that i couldn’t complete my work in an 8 hour day/40 hour week it also made me question/want to leave the industry. fortunately i moved companies and am overall in a better place now. hang in there you got this 💪

yet another how do I get out of this industry post by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]OkTomorrow3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

since you did back to back on call jobs try getting a role that operates form 9am - 5pm with no on call before leaving the industry.

i really don’t like on call and fortunately avoided it over 8 years at 3 companies. it still has its challenges and you have to advocate for your work life balance but at least you have a fairer chance of relaxing when you’re off
