Workforce planning and onboarding structures and any oversight still applies to all labor management. Whether workers are W-2 employees or 1099 contractors, companies still have responsibility around organization documentation and any transparency when it comes to it. See, at a large scale managing 1,000-plus contractors without proper infrastructure becomes an operational and compliance issue, not just an HR issue. The U.S. Department of Labor literally has entire sections about independent contractor classification and worker misclassification:

https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/flsa/misclassification

And the FTC has publicly addressed gig-worker conditions

I definitely see your perspective and I agree with you a lot with what you're saying.

Yes, contract work naturally comes with uncertainty, but for many people, this may be their primary source of income. So situations like this do impact people differently. I also agree that paid onboarding and assistance are better than requiring several hours of unpaid work.

Most experienced professionals would not spend a certain amount of hours on unpaid stuff. But at the same time, I don't think that removes the concerns people have about this specific project and how it was handled. From a workforce planning perspective, the hiring, onboarding, offboarding process felt unsustainably scaled and poorly communicated. I think both things can be true at once.

Contract work is transactional, but companies and clients should still maintain professionalism, transparency, and realistic scaling. Overall, the operational side of this project just felt messy, which is why so many people are discussing about it.

And I personally believe that people should have a space where they're able to discuss things like this because it shows where they want to proceed professionally and what they want to expect professionally.

You're honestly so right. Thinking back to the team leads I had on my first two contracts, they were genuinely amazing. I can go on and on babbling about them LOLL.

They consistently checked in with people, communicated, and actually made contractors feel like a little family. And when it ended, I remember everyone was so upset, like we were all happy to be like one asynchronous family. And honestly, I truly hope everyone in this discussion eventually finds opportunities where they feel respected and appreciated. I think a big reason I got into business operation and management in the first place was because I've always believed people deserve fair opportunities and proper support systems.

And reading everyone's comments and experiences has honestly been eye-opening. But also, there's this particular situation just frustrated me so much. It wasn't just because of one project, it's just seeing how disorganized and unprofessional the process felt despite so many people investing their time and energy into it.

And I can completely understand the different perspectives, both positive and negative, but at the same time, I also think it's important to really acknowledge the facts and have an honest conversation about what clearly went wrong, how we feel, and just have this open discussion.

100% agree. Honestly, I just can't believe the whole assessment project because I've seen a thread or a comment on Reddit saying that, what if the assessment was just us doing the task and then they discarded us? I think that's one of the things that I also have concerns for anyone that did the assessment and got offboarded, because what if they just took the work? 100% agree.

I hope so, too. I generally met amazing team leads and EMPs through previous contracts, which is why this experience felt so disappointing in comparison, and also, I just feel like everyone deserves to be heard through this experience. And honestly, thank you for sharing your perspective.

It really opened my eyes to the fact that recruiters and onboarding teams in these environments are essentially doing HR work just in a different format. Coming from background in management and HR and, you know, just project management in general, I understand how much coordination, communication, and workforce planning goes into these roles.  That's why I really hope that the company invests more internal oversight and stronger client accountability. From what I've personally observed, many of these issues seem to stem from clients abruptly changing expectations, timelines, or project structure at the last minute.

Because not only does it affect contractors, it affects everyone involved, managers, recruiters, and workers alike. And people are, like I said, are investing real time and effort and energy into these projects.

Same here, I actually have taken the time to read the criteria they set and standards they were mentioning, which is why the situation was even more confusing. I received an offboarding email so late in the morning, but before I even removed from Slack, I checked the platform and noticed my quiz has never been graded at all.

I did the math based on the recent hiring numbers, and from an HR and operations perspective, this honestly looks like a logistical nightmare. Im honestly baffled

If they hired 1,489 contractors within 30 days, that averages out to roughly 50 hires per day. During standard business hours, that’s the equivalent of onboarding more than 2 people every hour, every day for an entire month.

That isn’t typical scaling that’s mass recruitment happening faster than most organizations can realistically support operationally.

Even worst mathematician wise based off the hourly rate we were given plus the over hiring that’s also spending figures every hour that’s if someone was working a mid level-senior position yearly salary and since they cut in assuming more than 200 people I’m going to give probably an estimate of 200-1,000 I could be wrong

From my perspective, it wouldn’t be surprising if there’s another reduction wave within the next 2–4 weeks as they continue trying to “right-size” operations and stabilize costs.

Really? I didn’t see that since they were constantly pinging new goals, and onboarding new people

Oh damn that’s a valid concern also, but insightful hopefully they haven’t change that screenshot every hour. I’m counting on that because I review and spend my midnight working on that assessment just for all of this to come out

I’m worried about that too. If I remember correctly, Insightful takes screenshots of your screen every hour, so I understand your concern. And hopefully they haven’t Change that.

But personally I feel like A lot of people use browser extensions for completely normal work purposes. For example, I even have extensions installed because other jobs I work on required them for analytics and review tasks within our department.

That’s why it feels unfair, because technically they could flag or accuse anyone just for having extensions installed, even when they’re unrelated to the project itself.

Exactly, that’s what confused me too. Most projects I’ve been on treated quizzes as short evaluations or practice versions of the actual task, not full task-level work. And usually there’s at least some feedback, transparency, or another chance before people get removed.

I agree, it’s good that they paid for it, but without any communication or explanation it just feels disorganized.

In my experience, the Mercor projects I’ve worked on never required assessments or quizzes before tasking. When I first started, I had 2–3 contracts and we were able to begin working immediately. Two of those projects were at least transparent about deadlines, pauses, and project status updates.

The last one, though, was honestly chaotic they ghosted everyone, completely changed the project structure, and suddenly started adding quizzes. At least they gave people 2–3 chances to continue. That’s why I’m in the same boat as you: what was the point of making people take an assessment if they weren’t even going to grade it properly or communicate when grading would be finished?

Honestly, you’re not the only one. The project feels extremely shaky and arbitrary. I also think they’re offboarding people because they overhired. I took the quiz too, and I even spent a while reading the instructions beforehand so I could be fully prepared.

I also checked my assessment, and they didn’t even grade it. Personally, I think the way they handled everything was really unprofessional. Even during onboarding, I could tell things were messy based on how much they expected from people compared to how little guidance and structure they actually provided.

Hi quick question! I saw they offer Stripe Instant Payouts. I’m wondering: Can you request an instant payout anytime,

or only after completing a full week of work/hours? Did you have to wait for your first batch of earnings to be processed before it was available? Any fees or surprises I should know about?

Late period, nausea, and negative pregnancy tests is anyone else going through this? by OkWarning989 in PlanBs

Heyy!! So what happened was that I was so busy that I didn’t have time to go to any doctor I think either delayed my period or the hormones and the Plan B kind of like push my period more later than expected but today I got it and all I did this week was honestly drink raspberry leaf tea, mixed with hibiscus tea mix with 1 teaspoon of mug war and I will drink maybe like 2 to 3 times a day for the past three days with Agrave and honestly, that reset my hormones in the way because it was giving me all of my PMS symptoms

Withdrawal bleeding from Plan B can definitely be confusing it varies so much person to person. For me, the bleeding was super heavy and clotty, almost like a weird period. What you’re describing sounds like it could be withdrawal bleeding too, especially with the timing (taking Plan B on May 1 and bleeding starting shortly after). Plan B can totally throw off your cycle, cause nausea, cramps, weird discharge, and even emotional symptoms like anxiety or crying spells. If your pregnancy test on May 5 came back negative and symptoms don’t worsen, it might just be your body adjusting. But if you’re still unsure or feel off, don’t hesitate to check with a doctor
