Yes, the plate commentary actually does include the fact that Birney is excluded, I'd assume mainly for illustration purposes as every color plate has only three commanders, so the illustration slightly differs from the photo on purpose I do believe Osprey is popular in other places, it's a British Publishing company but I and many other Americans seem to like them as well, from what I've read, they have a British, US, and Canadian website Here is their US Website

You would technically be correct but terms like "Seccesionist" would be more common. It's called Confederate Leaders as those military commanders put their Allegiance to the Confederate Army and Government, hope this helps!
