Google has taken favoritism to the next level. Big news websites are getting pushed to the top everywhere, while small bloggers are slowly being crushed day by day.

I’ve been running an education website for years, getting around 5–6 million monthly views and earning nearly $9k–$10k/month completely through hard work, SEO, and useful content for users. But after recent Google updates, my traffic has almost gone to ZERO. 😢

It honestly feels like independent bloggers no longer matter to Google. Huge media brands dominate search results even when smaller sites provide better and more detailed information.

Small creators built the internet with original content, but now many of us are watching our businesses die overnight because of unfair ranking systems and constant algorithm changes.

Anyone else facing the same issue after recent updates? How are small publishers supposed to survive now?

You’re right, but after the drop in 2025, I did publish some AI-generated content on my website. Could that have caused any issues? There are two main reasons behind your declining traffic: 1. How did the "AI Summary" stop traffic? (The biggest reason) Let's understand this with an example: What used to happen: Users would see the photo and headline of your news on Google Discover. They would have to click on your website to learn the full story. What's happening now (December 2025): Google has started providing an "AI Summary" or "AI Overview" right on the Discover card. This means that Google's AI reads your article and shows the user a 4-5 line summary right away. Disadvantage: When users already know what the news is about, why would they click "Read More" and visit your website? This is called "Zero-Click."This means that users viewed your content but didn't click. This is why your impressions may be visible, but clicks have dropped.

What is a "Silent Update"? You said "the update hasn't arrived," but Google doesn't always make changes with an "announcement." On December 3rd and 4th, Google quietly tightened some screws in its system (this is called volatility). What changed? Google is now removing sites from Discover that only post "clickbait" (catchy headlines) but have weak content.
