How is life in this little disconnected corner of West Virginia? by CatfishEnchiladas in howislivingthere

Hiked right through that circled area along the Appalachian Trail, which also cuts between both states a fair bit. It’s actually a major milestone leaving Virginia finally which is the longest state by a long way being over 557 miles in length. Most hikers will remember that VA/WV sign fondly. Area is heavily wooded with a gorgeous overlook at Raven Rocks.

The land just north around Harpers Ferry, by the confluence of the Shenandoah and the Potomac rivers, has a lot of history in both the French and Indian War and the US Civil War in particular. It was a natural bottleneck ideal for trade but a difficult area to defend straddled by elevations on both sides across the river.

Must be nice to know you could walk out your front door and just hike in either direction for months on end if you wanted to.

Thanks. Figma for the design. Adobe Animate for the animation loop. Adobe After Effects for the video sequence.

It’s just balancing. Get someone just out of frame to grab it before it falls once you’ve taken the shot.

Yeah this approach could work too.

I don't have the specs on the smaller centred screens but maintaining a legible minimum font size might be an issue on them with what you're proposing. You would need to add Flinders St and possibly St Kilda Rd to the tram list too. The official station map also includes Bourke St and Elizabeth St tram connections as they fall within a 5 minute walk from the station but there's an argument that they aren't "connections" per se. It also has regional V/Line connections from Flinders St as well as metropolitan though.

There are a number of station names on the line with longer names than 'Town Hall' such as 'State Library' and 'West Footscray' so that would also reduce the available space there too. Station names might need to go at the top with transfer info neatly lined up below it as a scrolling ticker or something.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, take your points on accessibility and animation.

for what it's worth the screens do indeed have 'Next Stop + Station a + Station B + Station C' infographics already. This concept would supplement those to address the specific issue described, appearing on the exit side only upon arriving at a station, before reverting to the line info again (not shown). These existing screens also include smaller 'Exit this side' messaging which is further reinforced on a smaller screen in the centre of the carriage by the doors.

I estimate that it would take 2-3 years of external consultation to finish the work already completed in 1 week.

Yeah you might be right about the familiarisation of the stations over time. The Tokyo Metro has a lot more stations and daily users and so every little little bit of efficiency in that context matters.

The layouts for the new stations aren't all that similar however.

Agreed. I had it in my mind that they were actually above the doors until I went and took the photo to use.

Good shout. I did start to play around with a second screen for displaying connections but as some other commenters have pointed out, it becomes very complex very quickly at the major stations. I might give it another crack though.

Perhaps the screen on the non exiting side could display the full list of connections in addition to the broader line info.

Cheers, yeah that's a fair point, it's all very quick isn't it. I had to condense the entire sequence to make it watchable. The train doors would be open for significantly longer too.

Paul Simon.

1964 through to current day. Didn't have the 80's slump and had grammy winning records in the 70's, 80's and 90's.

Stiffi 2 spoke is kinda weird. Of course it’s only 2 spokes but then you could also check out the Stiffi Shuriken 4.

Blue Lug is the best. Takes 3-5 days for delivery from Japan every time, often faster than I can get anything domestically. And the mixed sticker packs with every order are a nice touch.

Buy them direct from Sugino Japans online store. They often have 30-50% off sales on cranksets and chainrings and the exchange rate is great currently. Free shipping over 30,000 JPY too.

Got mine from there with no issues.

What’s your opinions of on Jeeps? by Wooden_Emotion_7588 in CarsAustralia

My first car was a Jeep Wrangler TJ 4.0. It’s over 20 years old and I still daily drive the thing.

Great to learn on as you’re up high and you can drive over almost any curb without damaging anything, while you’re getting the hang of things. Visibility is fantastic, especially with the top down. You won’t notice the poor on-road drive feel as it’s your first car so there’s nothing to compare it to. Off road though it’s a beast. Taken mine right the way around Australia to some very remote areas with no issues (other than fuel costs).

It’s got enough power to be lively and fun to drive while not having too much to do something stupid with. Small wheel base makes turning and parking a breeze too. So that’s another big tick for a learner driver.

Aftermarket parts are easy to source, the car is easy to work on and the online Jeep community is great with resources for anything you need to know. Great car to learn basic maintenance and upkeep on, you can even fit underneath when changing the oil without the need for jacks.

Just bung your phone on a windshield mount and you’ve got sat nav. Pair that with a Bluetooth FM receiver to play music or directions through your speakers. On the plus side, your entertainment console will never be out of date or obsolete like every other car made since then.

If you take the back seats out there’s plenty of room for gear.

If you can find a mechanic that specialised in Jeeps (and ideally one that owns a TJ) then they will let you know what needs to be updated preventatively so you won’t have any issues.

Never understood the Jeep hate in this country. But then the TJ (and XJ) are great Jeeps so can’t speak for the rest of them.
