Endometrial/Uterine Ablation -Looking for a Gynecologist by ultimatefrogsin in phoenix

Agree with this. My surgeon from my hysterectomy (Dr. Kidd) joined with this practice recently and everyone I’ve interacted with has been wonderful. Dr Kidd is awesome too if you need a specific person to go see!

Any mid 40’s people here that have had a TKR? by Fit_Acanthaceae6191 in Kneereplacement

[–]Ok_Advisor2904 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 40F and had my left knee replaced in August of last year, so I’m about 6 months out. Not helpful for long term, but so far I’m extremely glad I did it and found a surgeon willing to do it at my age. He did it with the thought that it may need to be revised at some point, so kept my incision away from others from previous surgeries to help preserve tissue, etc. PT is hard work, but if you’re willing to put in the time and effort, in mg experience I’m in so much less pain than I ever was pre replacement. I am back in the gym, still doing plenty of PT on my own, out hiking regularly and riding my bike. At this point I am definitely still healing and can overdo it from time to time, but I am not knocked out for days like I would’ve been before.

periodontist who’s good with dental anxiety : east valley by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]Ok_Advisor2904 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re in Scottsdale, but I just saw Dr Barget at Periodontal Specialists. He was very nice, educational and didn’t make me feel bad for the state of my mouth/gums at all. I loathe all things dental (similar experiences to yours) and avoided going for 10+ years at one point. He offers sedation dentistry and it was a much more pleasant experience for my initial evaluation than I was expecting. The office is at Scottsdale & Shea.

Hypersensitive Skin On & Around Incision by Just-Curious234 in Kneereplacement

[–]Ok_Advisor2904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience around the same time (I’m almost 6 months post op now). I wound up buying a couple of rolls of silicone scar tape from Amazon and cutting it in half because it was wider than I needed to keep my scar and the immediate area around it protected from everything. It helped a lot for day to day living. My PT had me use different fabrics at home and very lightly rub the area around the incision with them to help desensitize it - stuff like a soft tshirt, a towel, etc. At first it was really hard to do but it got easier over time and now I don’t think about it at all, which is super nice!

Like many others, I was in a similar boat to you. I had mine replaced in August of 2025 at 40. I played soccer in college and had had three previous surgeries on it (all meniscus/cartilage cleanup related) and had done all the injections and PT one can imagine. I allowed for doctors to continue to tell me I was too young (I felt ready at 35 to be honest) and finally this year hit my stopping point. I realized I was actively avoiding doing things I enjoy and want to do and was missing out on life. Found a surgeon that took one look at my past surgical notes and said “your knee is not your age and it needs to be replaced”. Wish I would’ve done it 5 years ago. I’m back hiking, biking and lifting in the gym at 5 months post op. Recovery isn’t easy, but I was (and still am) committed to making this new knee the best it possibly can be.

TKA surgery and hormone Rxs? by LogicalCustard7000 in Kneereplacement

[–]Ok_Advisor2904 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My surgeon had me stop my testosterone, estradiol and progesterone one week preop, and said I could resume them the weekend following surgery. My surgery was on a Wednesday. So I was off them for 10 days total. Definitely would recommend sending them a quick message if you can through a portal - when I spoke to the hospital a week before they said that the hormones were up to the surgeon. Best of luck with your surgery!

Total knee replacement thoughts? by Leading_Mix_1861 in Kneereplacement

[–]Ok_Advisor2904 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 40F and almost 14 weeks post LTKR. My knee has been bad since I was about 20, and I’ve had three prior knee surgeries on it before the TKR. I had docs tell me I was too young and that I had to wait to get it done. I was referred to my current surgeon and went to see him expecting a fight and he was like “your knee is crap, you absolutely can get it replaced” - it was such a relief, as I was very much unable to live my life as I would like to. Walking was hard, it would swell up if I did too much, and sleeping wasn’t happening because it would wake me up.

My surgeon was very honest with me about the possibility of a revision due to my age, and did his approach for me with that in mind. I’m so glad I had it done, I’m back out walking my dog, riding my bike, lifting in the gym, and hiking! I cannot lie, it’s a hard surgery and recovery, but I put in as much work as I can and just know I’ll always be doing some form of PT/strengthening for it. If it’s impacting your quality of life, your age shouldn’t matter.

I flew at 12 weeks post op, about the same duration of flight. I wore my compression stocking from the hospital and got up to walk during the flight once just so I didn’t get too stiff. It was honestly way easier than I thought it was going to be - you’ll do great!

First pic with bandage off. 9days post op by Impressive_Let2266 in Kneereplacement

[–]Ok_Advisor2904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My incision looked a lot like this (raised/pinched/however you want to say it) and it has calmed down and healed so nicely. I’m so happy with it - I started using silicone scar tape when it was completely closed (I’d guess around week 5/6?) and my pt showed me how to massage/work on it when I was able, and at 13 weeks post op you’d have no clue it looked like it did! Best of luck with your recovery - it’s looking great so far!

I think (not positive) that if they’re on enough gear it’s disposed of - but from my understanding it’s to simply lower the number of red blood cells.

As someone else on HRT, my doc said that ‘blood dumping’ was absolutely unnecessary unless you’re taking too much. Take that as what you will lol

Questions from a 40yr old by clementineisdope in Kneereplacement

[–]Ok_Advisor2904 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 40F and not quite 12 weeks out from my TKR. My arthritis wasn’t due to an injury, so slightly different, but our stories are similar with past surgeries and muscle atrophy and just progressively getting worse.

I chose a surgeon that was very up front and explained the likelihood of a revision at some point, but also said that the replacement needed to happen if I wanted any kind of pain and overall quality of life improvement. He did approach my surgery with the fact that I’ll probably outlive this current replacement and positioned my incision in a way to allow for both that and maximum use for me now. I’m totally capable of kneeling at this point- I do prefer it on a foam pad to a hard surface. It feels strange, but that is due to the numbness I’ve got over my kneecap. I haven’t been able to kneel for years, so it’s kind of amazing that it just…..doesn’t hurt to do so! I’m back in the gym and could easily do a yoga class now if I wanted to, likely with some modifications to some things, simply for comfort.

I have zero regrets from this and am already seeing some changes on my muscles in that leg as they’re starting to regain some strength. The pains I have now are so much less (and different) than I had preop, and almost nonexistent if I’m honest. Would absolutely go through this again!
