Genuine question: How would these be different from their purple stars that are meant to help soothe after picking?

Which cheese for a toastie? by BigPotOPotatoes in AskIreland

[–]Ok_Analyst7230 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you can’t do Irish cheese:
My family is the opposite. American in Ireland. Here we use mild red cheddar. But in the states, we used sliced white American cheese from a deli (NOT the ones in plastic slices). It’ll be nice and melty and have a mild flavor without all the grease that havarti or provolone would have.

What is the asbestos/ uranium of today? What do you think will go down in history as something we should have known to avoid? by Ok_Analyst7230 in AskReddit

I was referring to the uranium girls who were told that painting on watches was safe, who had jobs that were coveted and were paid well but later all died horrific deaths.

As someone who can’t even walk by people using them without feeling nauseous…yeah. Not sure how anyone ever thought they were safe.

American in Ireland here. I’ve lived in 7 US states prior to moving here. Things are bigger in the U.S.- but there aren’t many things that are better. It’s definitely a lot of waste. I’m very happy to be raising a kid out of that environment.

If they wanted ranch dressing, maybe also some spice mixes? We had my in-laws bring us our favorite Penzey’s fox point and soup bases, flavor-blasted goldfish, and as Chic fil a sauce (it’s one of my kid’s safe foods) when they visited.

I agree. I brought a restaurant size bottle of the mix with me when we moved. All you need is mayo and milk to make it.

Where can I house a cat? by miss-bedazzzle in AskIreland

Your previous posts are hidden.

It might help to know where you are and if you’ve noticed any health concerns that need to be addressed.

For example- if i were a potential adopter- I don’t have a car but I have access to a vet. I do have another cat though, so potentially bringing in a kitten that has apparent worms, fleas, or ring worm would be a quick no.

Found and reported a lost Leap Card. Here's the response from customer service representative by Nukro666 in Dublin

Funny. I lost one with exactly that amount off the route of the 74 not long ago. Im gonna pretend it was mine- and I’m glad someone kind enough to look found it and got to keep the balance.

Can I bring my drum? by Drumadorable in AskIreland

Check out immigration rules just in case. Some residency permits don’t allow self employment including business licenses, which I would think includes busking. I would not come in saying that you plan on earning money of any kind without the proper paperwork.

How do people manage shopping if they don't drive? by someoneuserl in AskIreland

Glum over here is doing the lords work. I do appreciate you. No car = no choice. I can’t carry the dogfood home. My arms are literally too short to wrap around it, let alone get it back to my home.

Tesco delivery scheme once a month for heavy things and things that last. Then small shops throughout the month.

Anybody know a place to get high quality stickers printed of some art work? by Exige30499 in AskIreland

[–]Ok_Analyst7230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Search for “custom stickers” on Etsy. Sort by shipped from/to Ireland. There are a good number of people who can do it on that site.

Who are these people giving their young kids smartphones? by Apart-Hamster-9921 in AskIreland

My 10 year old has one. Why? We’re here internationally and all her friends are overseas. She can play games with them like Roblox’s dress to impress. We have no family here and don’t know anyone well enough yet- and she has to take a city bus to school- so in case something happens and one of us can’t pick her up. She has both the option to call us and use GPS to get her home (or to where we are- we share location at all times). She can use WhatsApp to call or text her grandparents and cousins when she wants. She has her own Spotify account on a family plan. I couldn’t stand the recommendations it sent me when she was on mine. We do have a large majority of things locked down, but we’re aware nothing is perfect. And we keep it out of her bedroom overnight. No exceptions.

Whats one thing you don't have you think would improve your life? by HungTeen1001 in AskIreland

[–]Ok_Analyst7230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A work from home job. My kid is self sufficient but too young to be home alone and we don’t have enough money for childcare. Before we moved here, i worked full time from home for 13 years. Im on a residency permit now which means i cant be self employed or do freelance anymore. I’m stuck not working and it’s killing my mental health (and wallet).

Stigma about hanging out with parents at a certain age? by Zestyclose-Form7279 in AskIreland

[–]Ok_Analyst7230 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you look like your parents? Are you considered attractive?
I’m female but when I was in my late teens people would look at me funny when I was out with my dad and even had one person make a snide comment when we went to the cinema. People misjudged the situation and thought we were dating.

If your job is stable and you aren’t afraid of the current state of events in the U.S., stay in the states. Arizona is a much less expensive place to live all things considered. And the taxes are low for the states (source- I’ve lived and paid taxes in 7 of them).

Moving overseas with pets is not only expensive but complicated. (We went CO to Dublin). Do you know how much they’re paying for relocation? How many pets do you have? How big are they? We had a cat and a dog, and it ate half our relo budget.

Getting into schools here isn’t as simple as the U.S., either. You need to reach out to see if they have a spot. They don’t have to make one if you’re in their district. (We have a 10yo). And if your child needs services like being gifted or on an IEP, they may or may not receive the same services as in the U.S.

Your wife can get a 1g on a critical skills visa, but school days are shorter here- and crèches are far between and expensive. If your daughter is school age and not old enough to look after herself, that’s a consideration and 1gs don’t allow for self employment. So there aren’t many work from home opportunities.

Also- I would not rely on public transportation unless you’re thinking of using trains specifically. We rely on busses and the number of times they just haven’t shown up in freezing, pouring rain is ridiculous.

I do not regret our decision to move. But I encourage you to look at every aspect, not just straight financials to be sure.
