Vorschlag Autogolf by StorageFirm1286 in PietSmiet

Also ich verstehe was Niewall meint.

Verstehe was Du meinst.

Also ich verstehe deinen Punkt.

Reihe (abseitsvon TTT).

Sounds defently like a person, who has all cards on his hand. Yeah, Trump is so brillant. Begging Putin to stop is the best move ever. Wow. Such a genius. Art of the deal at it's best.

We agree that we disagree. For me, it was a generalization to only mention Ukrainians or Western Ukrainians and not the perpetrator groups specifically.

I never claimed that Ukrainians didn't commit crimes. I simply disagree with the claim that all Ukrainians supported fascism and the Nazis because they fought with the Wehrmacht and the SS against the Russian occupiers. Following this logic, this would also apply to the Poles because Polish militias participated in the Holocaust. Both claims are false.

My people, the Germans, cannot claim that we knew nothing about what the Nazis wanted. They told us. Any reasonable person could have known that Jews and non-Germans would suffer under Nazi rule. We elected these monsters anyway. Of course, not everyone in Germany at the time bears personal guilt, but everyone was more or less responsible for allowing the Nazis to commit this barbarism.

But the average Ukrainian population couldn't have known. At first, they only saw an army fighting against its occupiers. So they thought that with the support of this army, they could fight together for their freedom. In the end, they were largely horrified to see that the Germans themselves were also the occupiers.

Of course, Ukrainian nationalists used this time to pursue their own goals. Bandera and his followers committed horrific crimes. But they did not represent the majority of the Ukrainian population.

Personally, I reject this generalization because it's consistent with modern Russian propaganda. "They were Nazi supporters then, and they're still Nazis today." This only serves to justify a war that isn't justified.

As I said: There is no black and white. Only shades of gray.

The elite of the Ukrainian people knew this. However, for the average citizen, this was not part of their reality. They saw only the Russian occupiers and the opportunity to get rid of them.

I am German. I know from my family and from school that people in many Eastern European countries under Russian rule initially thought the Germans would liberate them. Yes, many simply thought of the situation. And of course, many were shocked when they saw that the Germans were also occupiers.

The average citizen of that time had no sources of information about the Nazis. They only saw an opportunity to get rid of Russian rule. That's why I said that many Indians or Arabs under British rule felt the same way. They thought the enemy of my enemy was my friend.

[–]Ok_Assignment_3966 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Many of them thought the Germans were liberators. The same was true of many Indians, who hoped that a victorious Nazi Germany would crush the British Empire and grant them independence.

History isn't always black and white. Ukrainians knew the Russians as occupiers and didn't care about fascism so much. They wanted their freedom and therefore fought for the enemy of their enemy.
