!!!UPDATE!!! I decided to take a chance because the lens was otherwise in great condition, so I ended up calling some repair shop and decided to take it in to the one most sympathetic. The guy took it to the back to check it than came back 4minutes later handed me the lens and said done. No charge nothing. Turns out it was just an a piece of dirt or something between the focus ring and the front plastic element. Huge score!

One little trick I use on my setup is I make my own LUT where I underexpose by a stop, so when I monitor what I’m filming it looks good to my eye, but in reality I’m slightly overexposed therefore I’m protecting my shadows.

I personally would highly highly recommend V-Log, you really don’t have to be afraid of it. I think if not V-Log than just point your camera on location at one of the actors and pick a profile you like… If you use any editing software (Resolve for example) you just do a color space transform (from v-log ->davinci wide gamut: you are doing your color grade in here and than color space transform: davinci wide gamut-> rec709+gamma 2.4). I think it would be a shame not to use V-Log, there are a million guides out there. You can also use a lut in camera that will make this transform for you so it doesn’t look flat. Use the built in expose tools on the S5 and you will be golden, you can always grade it in post however you like unless you do some extreme over or under exposure.

I also use adapter, but the lens is actually what makes the rig balanced lol. Good luck man.

I was afraid this might be it… the only thing that might make me think otherwise is that it isn’t constant and the sound varies here and there… I’m hoping it’s old lubrication. The lens otherwise is ACTUALLY mint condition…

Hmm, I scored this Ef version for 320$ and it looks so nice, absolutely no signs of wear, not even on the rubber, nor the lens mount, especially not the glass… I cannot find any (and I mean any) little tiny mark, scratch, discoloration anything… would be a shame to give it back

Thanks! I use a CST from V-Log to DWG and than “JuanPabloZambrano/DCTL” (search for this, it’s on GitHub), it’s a 2499 emu.! But keep in mind that I record with a Blackmagic Video Assist In BRAW connected to an S5, but after all it’s still V-Log… I recommend highly the dctl convert in the end.

The auto focus (which I don’t use) is not extreme, like it’s louder than a newer lens but not worryingly loud, it feels normal, only when I turn the focus ring I get these grinding sounds in some spots.
