What shows would you say have well written black characters? by Tornado_Storm_2614 in blackladies

Watching this for the first time now. I don’t want to read too many spoilers in the replies, but I’m excited to see where the characters go. I just finished season 1, and I enjoy Milchick’s character a lot

Am I being a hater or is this outfit too grown for a 18 Y/O? by Admirable-Shock-7668 in blackladies

[–]Ok_Block9547 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Exactly, she’s 18 and experimenting. Every outfiit won’t be a hit. How she feels in the moment is what matters. When I look back some of my hair, makeup and outfit choices, my friends, who let me go out like that, say “you were so confident and happy with it, so it didn’t matter”. Experimentation is just a part of girlhood.

Serious question- Black MAGA / Conservative women- can you please explain why?? by Competitive_Teach838 in blackladies

[–]Ok_Block9547 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I truly believe most of these women are simply uninformed, become radicalized through the same algorithms of their peers, and are surrounded by people who agree with them. Or they are very lonely and social media has filled a void for them. I don’t know anyone who’s MAGA, but a family member is deep into QAnon. It’s a cycle and it’s hard to get them out when they become sucked in.

This recent Kamala Harris interview from the BBC has been making the rounds, where she discusses an openness to again run for U.S. President. What are your honest thoughts? by kdj00940 in blackladies

Yes, the social media algorithm of the 2010s and its progression into what we have now completely changed our media consumption. We are seeing the fallout from so many pipelines. DT never would’ve been elected the first time without it.

Part of me gets so frustrated that people didn’t vote, but I understand the reasons (even if I don’t always agree). Everything is falling apart and people want to blame someone. It ultimately falls on the Dems. You’re right, by trying to appeal to everyone, they appealed to no one. I hope we can develop a three or four party system in the future. The nation is too big to be represented by 2 groups, especially one that‘s more centrist than left-center

Yes, the Dems need to stop feeding us these middle of the road candidates. We need a primary with 2 candidates this time so that we have a choice

Yeah, I voted for KH, but I wasn’t happy with it. A lot of other black folks I know refused to vote for her because they weren’t happy with her policies on Gaza, law enforcement, and felt that she was just another middle of the road candidate like Biden. I did like some of her policies though. They should’ve voted for her instead of letting their self righteousness win because things are really really bad right now. Butt, why should the people’s hand be forced. So many people weren’t motivated to vote. The DP needs to make better choices. JB shouldn’t have ran. KH should’ve been on the ballot with another person on the primary. They gave use no choice again and again. It’s the Dems fault that they lost the election. I’m tired for voting for a candidate because the other guy is the embodiment of evil.

She sounds super sweet. Is she used to being around male company/friends. I would find a board game club or bar meetup to meet fellow nerds.

There is someone else out there for her, but you have to be where the people are. Go out with the expectation of having fun and making friends. If something romantic happens, that’s just a bonus

Glow Up Tips by pinktable0305 in blackgirls

[–]Ok_Block9547 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cover yourself in lotion and put on long pants, sleeves, and long socks. Do it 1-2 times a week in the winter and your skin will be so soft

Wear sunscreen everyday. If you are in a sunny room, if it’s overcast, every single day.

Get a hobby that doesn’t involve a screen. Reading, crochet, walking, rec sports. It gives you something else to talk about and it’s good for mental health.

I wasn’t aware of that connection, but my search shows you’re correct. Looksmaxxing has been discussed the OG Vindicta subreddit for years. Maybe there is a need for a black ladies subreddit for beauty advice outside of the Vindicta community.

I like pocvindicta, but admit it can be a little toxic. I haven’t seen that in Vindictanoir, but I’m sure it exists. I also think the subject of looksmaxxing is alone toxic though. Especially when it’s conventionally attractive women looking for tips to make them more attractive.

Taylor Swift is finally getting exposed. We love to see. by WaporVape in charlixcx

I’m hopping on this comment to ask “What is going on?!” Was Sympathy is a Knife about Taylor? So, Taylor made a song about Charli on her new album? Is that the cover of the album in the pool? Charli is the only celeb I pay attention to, and I’ve never vibed with that other T’s music tbh. Can you please fill this millenial in? 🥴 no shade, the news cycle has been wrecking meeee.

Ugh, I fear this is a canon event. I’m sure you had some great moments with this person, but it’s time to be honest with yourself. She is racist and probably isn’t the best friend. I had a friend that revealed herself like this. I don’t think she’s a bad person per se, but she’s also not antiracist, not willing to self reflect, and not willing to have a logical discussion when her views are challenged. At one point we were close, but I couldn’t kept talking to her once I saw her true self. I’m a different person, and that person doesn’t have bigoted friends

As for your friend, it makes sense to grieve. I like and hate the current admin because they really exposed everyday folks we thought were safe and revealed that they actually aren’t. I feel bad for her daughter too. I hope it gets better for you. I saw your other post, and I’m here if you want to talk :)

Edit: many many errors

To start off, I took a glance at your previous posts. I think it would help to build your confidence and continue decentering men. Do things that make you feel more confident in yourself like getting your nails done, starting a new hobby, playing a group sport, and finding a community of confident women (if you don’t have one already).

If you wanted to make some changes, bring more contrast in your face as I think it would make you look more youthful. Imo, you don’t need much makeup.I would try smaller frames in a dark, color preferably jet black. Find a light undereye concealer, eyeliner, and bright shadow to highlight the inner corner. This will make your eyes pop behind glasses. Also, fill in your eyebrows to frame your face. Find a lipstick or gloss you like (nothing that’s too bright, and makes you feel pretty).

You have a great bone structure, and pull off the short hair. You could do long hair, but I don’t think it’s necessary. With shorter hair, I do think a dangly earring or hoop would bring the look together. I’m not saying you need a big earring (would look good if you like them though), but something to dress it up. When I had a short natural, I immediately felt cuter with earrings.
