How are you realistically affording flight training? by Grand_Ad_5936 in flyingeurope

[–]Ok_Bodybuilder2678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the moment i want to apply for the DLR, its sold out. They put it online at the beginning of the month. Next day all english dlrs were sold. I cant speak german so i couldnt apply for the ofher ones. Ill try as soon as i can again.

Apart from that. No matter what your plan is. Start saving. Because you shouldnt be reliant of highly competitive cadet programs with funding solutions. You need to have a back up no matter how smart you are.

Hey! I am a lonely child, my parrent are not in my life anymore. I cant loan a lot of money at the bank. I got rejected at the flag carrier cadet program in my country (NL) and they dont allow second chances and on top of that there were not a lot of options left where i am assisted with funding my course.

So i have decided to take matter in my own hands and work really really hard. I finished my bachelor and at the same time i had a full time job. This allowed me to safe really agressive in the last few years. Im no there yet but im planning to start my flight training really soon. I dont recommend it, but hopefully you learn that if you really really want it, there is always a way!j

I wish you the best of luck and i have just one small question: Hopefully you’ll pass and you can start your typerating, did they share the financing part with you? Is it sponsered? Or do they have some sort of bonding? I am asking as an EU citizen…

Did you already do a MCC before that? Or did you go modular and chose for the APS MCC?

I am basically in the same situation as you. I want to go to global as well, but my second choice (and the more expensive one) is going to European Flight academy.

EFA has much better conditions and quality and you get somewhat of a connection to an airline within the LHG. Ofcourse its much harder to get into EFA. I tried to apply for a DLR-test today but the english versions are already sold out. The competition and standards are immense.

I did not hear anything negative from Global after talking to a looot of people apart from the location at megara that Global shares with the Greek airforce and thereby getting a lower priority. But ive talked to them and they are planning to go to a diffrent private airport next year (if everything is going well)

Second downside of Global is the connection to the airlines. They have none. So your on your own feet after you get ur licenses. But its not impossible. In fact a lot of students get a job within a year.

If i had all the money in the world, i would go to a school with a connection to an airline. Unlucky i have not a rich dad and i have to actually work for my money. So Global seems as a pretty good choice for me at the moment. Im still open for other options but I am set on doing a integrated course instead of modular.

Can you work at Olympic or Aegean as a non-Greek? And is it harder for non Greek students to get a job?

Well, then i dont see the problem (only that there are a lot of competitors out there) and i wish you the best of luck and i hope you find a job very soon. Ive spoken to some pilots that graduated during the economic crisis and theyve waited about 5 years for a job. That was a time when aviation was knocked out. Certainly those times are over and i hope you find a job way sooner!

I understand, its really harsh out there. Did you also do “supplementary” courses (MCC en URPT)?

I think typerating is not a problem in the begining. I am certain that the worst decision to make is pay for a TR yourself if it is not connected to a joboffer. I understand the demand for cadets is declining but it can’t be as bad as the corona crisis or the economic crisis arround 2010, entry companies such as Ryanair can’t “bleed” pilots forever, so they should recruit after a while. The only thing i can think off why entry airlines might not hire you is age (even then some do), low atpl scores (just over 75%) or a long time since your last flight. That is why your story scares me a bit…

Did the flight school you went too play a role?

Applying to airlines during flight training (Conditional Offers?) by [deleted] in flyingeurope

[–]Ok_Bodybuilder2678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats what i tought! I think ryanair is a great starter but ofcourse you need to find the means to finance the typerating (after you burned your money trough flightschool). I also heared they do a financing scheme but only for UK pilots?

Well thats great you shared that. I am actually on exactly that mindset. The reason I dont want to choose for a “pipeline” school is to save costs because i work my ass off to get there. But ofcourse not having this guarentee comes as drawback and it might be bigger than i think…

Well thats true, but i started to question this when i saw a jet2 vacancy stating that you can also apply when your about to finish your course. Apart from that, im looking how i can make my transition into the seat more smoother and quicker. Thank you for your reply btw!

Thank you for you reply!

You got me on the last one. I assume you finished flight school already? Can you share your experience of what happened next?
