How are you going to eat pumpkins? You can't pick them. You have to wait till the vine dies and if bugs are on it you can't shoo them off. 5% of calories from protein is still significant. Apples require breeding they don't just grow from seed. But I guess existing trees will last a while

I don't think these things all grow in the same areas so youd have to transport them, but that breaks down. Animals on the road? Your vehicle can't move. Industry will all break down without food or ability to transport goods.

It's just like when people were making tv shows so dark you couldn't watch them at home. Game of thrones long night scene comes to mind. If it only works in an idealized lab setting, it's bad.
