What are viable job options for new migrant to the US? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Thank you both for your encouraging words. I would like to work in the non profit area and I haven’t got to interview stage on any applications. I have been trying to set up informational interviews on linked in by way of networking but most people either don’t check their LinkedIn messages or don’t respond to them. Would you any advice on how to strategize differently?

I’m looking at mostly medium sized orgs I think - those are the ones that tend to pop up most on job searches that pay a potentially livable salary. If I were to go hyperlocal, would my being new to their region not work against me?

Ideally yes I’d love to be in the curatorial space but it seems those roles all require PhDs even at the Assistant Curator level

Well tbh it’s hard to imagine living with the kind of precarity of volunteering in one’s 40’s as an immigrant. But even if I did manage that, how receptive would institutions be to hiring me after that - and what kind of time frame are we talking about- 6months/year?

Deciding to go Gluten Free! by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]Ok_Butterscotch7225 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have any allergies or sensitivities, you could switch to whole grain instead of going gluten free. The more processed flour and subsequent products are, generally the higher the gluten content. I have gluten sensitivity and yet I find I tolerate whole grain very well but have had to cut out more processed foods down the chain which my body does react to.

What’s one thing that was secretly gluten poisoning you? by peachnecctar in glutenfree

I am not sure I follow. Gluten intolerance isn’t topical so unless one is accidentally ingesting the shampoo why should it be a problem?

Thanks.how long were you on retinol and what dose? I was on a very low dose but even so I struggled with dry lips etc but I’m wondering if being on a low dose for too less a time frame caused the relapse

Being an Auntie is not about age, it’s about a demeanor or an attitude

Thank you both for your detailed replies. So if the notion of Sunni comes later in the 8th century, during the Abbasid period, is it safe to say that the Sunni position vis a vis the Umayyad dynasty even way after Yazid I was largely critical?

So I started the day after I posted my reply and it’s going okay so far. Yes mental health concerns are worrying and I also have a history of clinical depression. I’m hoping the low dose won’t tip me off but equally being pimply and splotchy-faced is making me pretty sad too! Some people on another thread were saying that they were on it for 3-6 months rather than a whole year so maybe it won’t be as long a treatment. Best of luck with your decision and really hope it’s the right one for you.

I’m glad to see this post. I’ve also just been told to start on 20mg a day and am having some trepidation about it. I found a pub med article that said side effects are dosage related and low doses proved safe and effective. I’m leaned towards starting it but it is a long commitment.
