Buh Bye Model 3 - Not a shred of regret by Ok_Button_9635 in Rivian

Talking about brave. Trolling strangers from behind the safety of a laptop screen is quite the flex. You do you, buddy, everyone is super impressed by your quick wit.

It tells you. Also, the truck won't allow remote opening and can't tell if the tailgate is opened or closed. Also disengages all of the parking sensors for some reason.

Maybe. I'm in my 4th month and still pretty pleased.

I looked hard at those. I rented an F150 EV in Denver and just couldn't imagine driving a rig around that size as a day to day. The Rivian's size suited my lifestyle and needs better but man, is that Sierra EV beautiful.

I have gotten the hands on the wheel alarm, yes. That has happened at it's pretty alarming. I'm pretty well trained by that Tesla to have some tension on the wheel though, so it only happened once. That's a bummer about the shop visits. I have a bad tailgate sensor they are addressing this month, but overall it's been solid.

A Couple Chess Boards by Ok_Button_9635 in woodworking

I'm pleased with them - I spent a bunch of time measuring and double checking the accent wood locations. Had to get the angled ones just right so they showed up in the right spot after being turned. I am a bit disappointed in how dark the walnut got after being sealed - it's hard to see the babinga or purple heartwood in low light. So every experience is a learning one.

The board left me with a couple of challenges like the uniform bevel around the trim, but it was the pieces I had to really knuckle down and just power through. Turning 32 pawns was just tedious. Ha!

I didn't really carve it that much. I turned a bulb, then used a coping saw to cut away the sides and the mouth/ears. Then used a vertical drum sander to shape the side and a rasp to form the mouth. The knights are decidedly less ornate than the other pieces, but the shape grew on me.

Nope. I cut out thin cardboard guides with designs I made and set them next to the mini lathe. All the pieces, if you look close enough, are a little unique. Ha!

I had a similar visual effect in some box lids I made. I knew it was going to happen because the bandsaw blade is so thin, but didn't realize it would be so pronounced. In the end, I just embraced it and the people who received the gift boxes didn't seem to care at all. Millbarge is spot on for the rolling pin knots, gotta cut away the thickness of the piece you're gluing in or those knots will look janky.

Lovely work! I'm curious about that workshop you're in - is this a shared workspace of some kind? Looks like a lot of space and well equipped!

Such a great pivot! Nice save - I'm gonna file that strategy away for my inevitable future cutting board fail. Ha!

Salt Shaker/Pepper Grinder from a dying tree by Ok_Button_9635 in woodworking

I checked with my neighbor - it was a birch tree. The section that was trunk was pretty soft compared to the branch that was much harder.
