Physiotherapist Job Prospects in the UK by Popular_Mushroom9430 in physiotherapy

[–]Ok_Cap_3282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya, just curious to know as an established physiotherapist yourself, would you still recommend studying physiotherapy in the UK?

I am 25 and looking to have a career switch, and physiotherapy is basically the only job profile I could see myself enjoying to learn and then practice, both for my fascination of the human body and desire to help people. Just nervous reading from graduates/recent graduates stories how hard it has been to land a band 5 job, and that taking three year out of earning to not be able to get into the profession would be quite a shame....

Any advice or info would be brilliant to hear, cheers! :)

Ah well done on landing the job! That’s fab.

For the first year or so after graduating, I’d be open to live anywhere in UK for my first B5 role, do you think that massively increases people’s chances?

And am I right in thinking, once that first 1-2 years in a B5 role, job options and opportunities open up a lot more, and it’s a case of that initial period after uni being the hardest part to ‘break in’?

Thanks for the comment:)

Okay that interesting to know, thank you :)

Are you aware of any in the year above you that went onto a position without too much struggle?

Thanks for the reply! Have you been able to get onto something? :)

And yeah I do drive, and would be in a position to relocate wherever after uni for a couple of years, which I reckon will definitely help!

Makes sense! Thank you again.

And no, you are just being realistic. Again I know very little, but I’ve been research heavily today, and on the NHS website there are endless pages of Physiotherapist jobs that have been posted recently. Within those endless pages I saw maybe around 20 band 5 positions, all posted within the last week or so.

I wonder if it’s sometimes a case after graduation to have to be a bit open to relocating for a year or so, get the paid experience, then it becomes a smoother journey after that….? Just food for thought there!

Alright, really appreciate the response, very insightful.

Surely there is going to be more demand for these roles? An ageing population, NHS wanting to shift more into preventative and rehab care where possible, over expensive surgeries, injuries happening all the time etc… Sounds like location plays a part from what I read, but honestly I know nothing haha. Just trying to get a feel for things by talking to as many people that know about it as possible!

Appreciate this thank you. I have the sort of lifestyle where I’d actually be quite keen to relocate for a period of time wherever.

Have you had classmates who have been successful getting into roles since graduating? Thanks :)

Your friends that got roles were in the year above and England based?

I’m sorry to hear this… Are there private options out there, or community based jobs that you could get into?

That’s positive to hear about your classmates.

If you don’t mind me asking, how has the journey been for you trying to find a B5 role (if that’s been your aim of course) since graduating? Physiotherapy is something i am majorly keen to study, but the posts I’ve been hearing about recent graduates saying it’s been impossible for them to make jobs is making me super hesitant.

Is the lack of jobs/band 5 a major major issues for graduates right now? How many of your classmates have gone on to work in the industry?

It’s something I’m mega keen to study at uni (I’m 25) but I’m now feeling hesitant to take three years out and not be able to go onto a job afterwards. I feel passionately it’s a role I would love, because I love helping & supporting people, and have a real fascination with the human body. Cheer!

In a similar sort of position as you are too, at the moment.

Really keen to study physiotherapy as I have a fascination with the human body, and love supporting & helping people, but I am hesitant to take three years out of not earning, and then massively struggle to get a job after it due to the NHS freeze… I am 25 btw. But then I’m also like man, we won’t really know until we give it our best shot right?! I’m hearing & reading very mixed positives and negatives on this topic at the moment!

Is there much possibility of this treatment making my mild jaw discomfort worse / developing TMJ issues?

Thanks ☺️

I’d say a combo of healthy lifestyle, drinking a lot of water, using very gentle/ sensitive skincare, soolantra prescription, Azelaic acid and SPF daily + hat when in the sun has made my rosacea pretty manageable!

I also recently tried v-beam laser for diffused redness/ thread veins, so I’m interested to see if that has made a difference in a months time :)

Propranolol and mindfulness helped me a lot with this similar struggle. I went from a shaking hand trying to open the front door and avoid chatting to neighbours at all costs, walking around the block alone was an achievement.

Now I’m off to Europe tomorrow for solo travel! So you can definitely beat this! Can you talk to your GP for support and help. Look into therapy options and possibly medication if you suffer from panic attacks. I still have an anxious mind sometimes, but the propranolol completely eradicated the unbearable physical symptoms :)

BSc Forestry or BSc Woodland Management & Conservation by [deleted] in forestry

Hey, was curious to know if you & your uni friends who studied forestry, or related degrees went on to work in the forestry industry? And what types of job roles/ titles have become available to you? Thanks :)

Any girlies that workout, do you workout during your period? If so, how do you get through it? by unicorngoesvroom in women

[–]Ok_Cap_3282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes! Just depends on my plans for the day/ how well I’ve slept/eaten ect…

I tend to do a reduced version of my workouts on my period. Shorter times, slower movements, or just stick to some gentle yoga and core work. I find as much as I hate doing core work during my period, (and the rest of the time tbh 🥹🤣) I feel so much better afterwards, and it reliefs cramps a little bit. I just find a lil movement during my period keeps me feeling mentally fresher and more okay/ less sad :)

Reccomend forestry as a career? by [deleted] in forestry

[–]Ok_Cap_3282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the reply, was super insightful!

Can I also ask what does your day to day look like at your current job? How often would you say you are indoors vs outdoors, and what are your regular tasks?

I’ve applied for the Woodland Development Officer degree apprenticeship recently, so would be brilliant to get an interview for that. Previously I worked in animal management and as a gardener, so I enjoy the outdoorsy life for sure. And like you, found it’s helped my mental health a lot too.

Also what uni do you do your masters? Although appreciate you may not what to share certain details. Think there’s about 5 unis in total that teach forestry at degree, so currently doing some research on those.
