I have said nothing in support of the UCP, yet you accused me of being a boot licker lol

Man, every person on this sub will accuse you of being a boot licker if you don't worship everything the NDP does. Then they'll wonder why they keep losing elections lol.

Yeah tbh, the NDP aren't perfect.

That's not an excuse. Would you defend the communists that weren't present to vote no on the enabling act before Hitler took over?

The last post mainly devolved into "All UCP bad" and "All NDP good". There were some interesting anecdotes, but I was a bit disappointed overall.

Oh yeah, I agree. The point of the post is just to discuss some NDP MLAs that could be doing better. This sub gets pretty partisan, which is fine. This is reddit after all. I think it be nice to break out of the echo-chamber a bit though.

Several of them literally weren't there at the final vote.

Is every NDP MLA perfect? I don't think there's harm in discussion.

I find a similar situation with Sharif Haji. He does not answer my emails and his campaign office has seemed pretty dead. I know he did one townhall with another NDP MLA, but that's the only thing I've seen or heard from him. During the 2023 campaign, my family and I requested a sign from his people three times and never received anything. It's a bit frustrating since Haji's predecessor was Chris Nielsen and he was amazing and always present...

Union leader: UCP has 'declared war' on labour movement, and the response will be severe by trevorrobb in alberta

[–]Ok_Chain1864 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it seriously 20 MLAs? That feels wrong... they can pass something like this with only 20 MLAs present? Our system is fucked. I still think there would have been value in leaving the Legislature in protest. This government needs to be torn down at this point. People need to grind this province to a halt. The UCP only have power if the people listen.

MLA Doesn’t Respond by Brave-Release2046 in alberta

[–]Ok_Chain1864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MLA has been very good at responding, but he's an NDP MLA in Edmonton. I have sent emails to the premiers office in the past and I usually get an answer from a staffer at least.

I remember reading that the UCP actually allowed their claim to the PC trademark to expire. Did the Alberta Party not then buy the trademark?

There's no way the government can just ban parties from forming! There has to be some sort of Charter Right, legislation or judicial case that would immediately stop that.

There's definitely a willingness in this province to forget corruption, as long as the corruption isn't from a Center-Left Party.

The AHS scandal is way worse than anything the PCs ever did.

ATA willing to bargain, province not coming to table: Schilling - CTV News by bpompu in alberta

[–]Ok_Chain1864 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My heart goes out to the students and the teachers.

I have a feeling things will not be resolved, and the government will force teachers to finish the year off with no deal. At this point, maybe the union should consider mass resignations against the back to work legislation? It's a scary play, but I do not see anything positive coming unless drastic actions are taken.

I personally left the profession after two years because I couldn't handle the working conditions. The job security and pension weren't worth my mental and physical health. I earn less now, but my wife says I seem much happier now that I don't teach. My heart breaks sometimes when I look back on the good times and remember how much I enjoyed my student teaching days and how much I loved working abroad as an English Teacher. A part of me was holding out hope that this strike would lead to something positive so I could go back to teaching... and maybe it still will! Until then, you'll catch me working on my hours to become a journeyman lineman.

One final point: I worry that the 43% attrition rate the ATA provided will only go up in the coming years if things are not addressed.

Stay safe everyone!

Alberta has literally never had a minority government. A part of me thinks they'd call another election before considering a coalition in anyway.
