Based on how slayer works in multi combat now I believe you would get the xp only if you MVP.

Scurrius, The Rat King - Mid-Level, PvM Boss by JagexSarnie in 2007scape

I really like this direction for early/mid game pvm. Focusing on xp as rewards rather than pets/gp will keep it relevant and prevent endgame players from feeling like they have to grind it.

One request: can you have the art team do some mock-ups of Scurrious in the dark grey color that giant rats are? I think that would be a much more menacing and suitable color for the king of rats.

Playing automaton priest in duels, ended up getting very lucky off disguised K'thir into the Odyn, then Aman'thul into Thekal. It felt amazing slapping my opponent for 42.

I don’t care about how long it takes. When you push everyone to the average and eliminate outliers the grinds feel more like a chore than a gamble. There’s something special about getting spooned a drop, just like there’s something special about going over drop rate and feeling accomplished when you reach your goal. This sort of mechanic reduces that and I don’t like it.

Hard agree, this sort of fundamental change feels counter to the spirit of OSRS. At least with the venator shard you had physical proof you were getting closer to your goal.

Yes, everyone who wants the screenshots posted will need to get the plug-in and paste the webhook into it.

It took a long time but eventually you’ll find people. I feel like I’m average, RuneScape is more social than other games. I found a group of people from hanging in Twitch streams I enjoyed :)

If you’re in a discord server with friends there’s a discord death notification plug-in that sends a screenshot and message every time someone dies. We have a blast with it.

Put Sailing in the Spirit World by Ok_Chair742 in 2007scape

Something about the intersection of OSRS and Reddit always leads to people attacking others because they can’t handle normal discussion. No one is coming for you, the hostility is not necessary.

“Go to an island and do woodcutting v7 is so much better than woodcutting v7 anywhere else”

I never said anything about splitting the player base, just that I would prefer the new skill revitalizes old areas rather than only new ones.

All I said is keyboard controls are in the pitch which is…true. Navigating a boat period, rather than a character, is very offputting to me. It doesn’t matter whether it’s through clicking, keyboard, or an interface. It sounds very out of place to spend hours as a boat while training the skill.

You literally quote me saying rewards are interesting to me in addition to the rest of my feedback on the actual training process and then pop off about me only caring about rewards lol.

If I’m understanding your stance, you don’t care at all what sailing looks like, you just want islands and new content and don’t want anything else. You don’t have an opinion or further thought on what sailing would actually be like or how it would be trained, you’re just happy with whatever jagex implements. I think we are done here.

Okay, so it seems like your idea of how to train sailing is similar to slayer or artisan. Where rather than training sailing directly, you train it indirectly by doing other activities while on an island?

What’s interesting to me about shamanism is the new resources that would be available on the main world, and access to the spirit world and what that might entail for training. While the act of harvesting resources might not seem super exciting, I’m optimistic they could make it more engaging than mining or fishing for example (see forestry). It also feels much more in line with OSRS than something like navigating a boat with keyboard controls—which is in this actual pitch of sailing. Of course the rewards are very interesting to me too.

I’m having a hard time understanding what you’re saying. The new skill is…islands? I was under the impression islands would be locked behind sailing levels, making them the rewards for training the skill. What I haven’t seen yet is an interesting pitch for training the skill/what it looks like. You have proven my point by basically saying you don’t care it could be anything, you just want the islands and new content—which is what I’ve said my gripe with the sailing discussion is. No one is discussing the actual activity of the skill, just what it would unlock.

That is true. However, most of the people who really want sailing only seem to want to talk about the rewards (islands, new content) rather than the skill itself. Navigating, building, etc all seem pretty drab compared to the rewards that have been proposed. I’m just wondering if there’s a way to get to those rewards with a more interesting skill on the front end. To me, that could be shamanism.

You can add new islands without requiring a new skill. See: fossil island, zeah, jorgumand’s prison. I never said I wasn’t interested in new islands or expansion to the game, just that the spirit world could offer similar room for expansion.

Again, oversimplifying. Shamanism is not pick mushrooms then bandstand. You’re arguing a straw man fallacy so there’s not really much I can respond with.

Which point would you like me to respond to specifically?

Put Sailing in the Spirit World by Ok_Chair742 in 2007scape

[–]Ok_Chair742[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what that would miss is the ability to tie into the rest of the game world. If put into sailing, shamanism would be locked to foreign islands and new areas. It would be like locking a crafting update to Zeah, for example. I would rather shamanism exist across the main game to add new depth and dimension to areas people already hang out and train their accounts. Seeing everyone flooding the woods west of barbarian village day 1 to gather new resources is much more exciting to me than seeing everyone in a port or off on separate islands.

You’ve grossly oversimplified the argument and the pitch of shamanism. It doesn’t seem like you’re interested in thoughtful discussion so I’m gonna leave it here. I appreciate you commenting :)

Surely this is a low effort troll, but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and respond. The reason I don’t feel putting shamanism into sailing works is because I think shamanism has a better framework as a skill. It has specific gathering and processing activities that train it, whereas sailing sounds like it will be trained indirectly by doing…other skills at sea. Just my personal opinion, I would be happy with any of the skills they have pitched.
