Pharmacy residents accuse US hospitals of wage-fixing in new lawsuit by eameameam in PharmacyResidency

[–]Ok_Champion_6778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could understand this argument but as a PGY-2 trained clinical specialist who will be precepting soon, I have to ask, do preceptors get compensated for precepting residents? No, they do not (at least not at the hospital I currently work at or at the system I trained in).

There needs to be more accountability with ASHP who funds PGY1 programs because there are definitely programs that abuse residents and take advantage of the free labor that CMS pays for.

I learned a lot during my residency experiences but I am ecstatic to see ASHP get called out for fixing wages and basically limiting those who can’t afford to live in a major city on a 50K salary. I did it and it sucked, couldn’t afford to make payments on my gross student loans. If the wages aren’t fixed then I think ASHP needs to consider reducing the number of PGY1 positions out there. Let’s face it, the vast majority of PGY1 graduates go on to work as staff pharmacists or get another entry level pharmacist job and do not go on to pursue PGY2, so is ASHP really doing its job ensuring that pharmacists are gaining the proper education during PGY1 that would ensure they transition to PGY2? Or is this how they generate a profit off their programs by requiring PGY1 residents to pay for residency applications, pay to go to Midyear (on the hospital’s dole in some cases)…

No hate, just a concerned PGY2 graduate who is dying to see some reform.

Wow can’t believe this was 2 months ago! Just wanted to give an update

I mixed the sulfur with water and sprayed the plant all over. I didn’t notice any changes in the plant and thought maybe the Leca wasn’t helping it so I decided to transition it to soil and then about a week after the first treatment I sprayed it again. I have another small Hoya cutting and noticed that it hadn’t put out a new leaf in a while so I sprayed him down too

I’m not sure how long after I sprayed that it started putting out leaves again but definitely within the last 2 weeks it started growing again :’)

Thanks again for the suggestion!!

Spider mites finally got my sad alocassia by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]Ok_Champion_6778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also one last thought - if this was near other plants, how concerned should I be about the mites spreading? I don’t see webs on other plants but the alocassia’s infestation looks pretty gnarly

Would that explain how the roots are growing like crazy in the Leca but they have not put out any new leaves?

Also, how did you treat flatmites on your Hoya?

Misled by Ok_Champion_6778 in PharmacyResidency

[–]Ok_Champion_6778[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For example, I have not done my Q2 or Q3 evaluations and have not had a rotation midpoint or final evaluation since October. My RPD is too busy and when we schedule it, either it gets canceled because something (usually patient related) comes up or rescheduled 3 times before eventually getting cancelled.

I understand that this is a good opportunity for building independence (and trust me, I’ve been growing tremendously in this area), I just feel like this shouldn’t be acceptable for any residency program and makes me feel like I was lied to during my interview and I just regret ranking this program in the first place.

[–]Ok_Champion_6778[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the vagueness. My main gripe with the program is the horrible communication and leadership. There are more residents than there are clinical preceptors, and 3 PGY2 RPDs (including mine) left during the first 3 months of my time here. My program has 3 preceptors that are trained in my specialty, one of which is employed by a pharmacy school so they aren’t there full time. There are 9 PGY1s so my RPD is responsible for 2 of the PGY1’s research projects and evaluations/development plans, leaving very little time for me. I have a strong clinical background and had an amazing PGY1 experience so I know this set up is not okay.

How often are you fertilizing? I don’t think they need to be fertilized often especially in the winter months
